No Default Gateway - Ethernet connection keeps dropping

Hi,
Firstly i have searched this forum plus other sites on the internet and cannot find a solution that works for me.
I am using an ethernet connection to my router (Netgear WNR2000 supplied by virgin media). I am running windows 7 professional (i have just reinstalled and this is when the problems started, before everything was fine).
I have an ASUS Formula Crosshair II motherboard and im using the onboard ethernet port, which is nvidia/nforce.

Every so often, seems to be random timing, my LAN connection will drop and when using the troubleshooter it says no default gateway was found and it fixes it. Then i can be ok again for a little while. As mentioned above this only started when i reinstalled windows 7. My old installed worked fine.
I have tried reinstalling/updating the drivers, i have also tried letting windows choose the drivers, both have the same result.

In the event logger when i get disconnects i get an error similar to this:

It is not always imap.googlemail.com that it states, sometimes it is dns.msftncsi.com or others. I do have Microsoft Outlook running all the time.

I found out that processID 1276 is an instance of svchost.exe. Im guessing processID's from errors on other days state an ID relating to svchost.exe but obviously cannot check!

I hope someone can help, its getting quite annoying!

My first reply did not post properly, so this is the shorter version because I am lazy and I do not want to retype

i had the same thing happen to me a month ago after changing routers.

Hard Reboot (press and hold reset buttons for 90 seconds , differs per device, then unplug everything and rework your ethernet jacks too after your reset your devices)
*Modem (remove battery if there is one,press and hold reset buttons for 90 seconds , differs per device )
*Router (press and hold reset buttons for 90 seconds , differs per device)
also try this if you dont want to call your ISP for a new IP
*then unplug everything and rework your ethernet jacks too after your reset your devices

Another method would be winsock reset and the following below
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

if that doesn't work, call your ISP and they will fix the problem

I really don't think it is a router problem, but it could be.
Have you checked the power settings on your NIC. Could be it is going to sleep and when waking, when you actually try to use it, it is not reconnecting properly.
Turn off the option to allow Windows to turn off the power to this device.

Normally a NIC will get all the info from the router, IP, DNS, default gateway, and a lease to all those things so they don't change. So if the card is being powered down that info will need to be updated when powering back up. This is where I think it is failing.

I have turned off the option to allow the computer to power off the device. How would i check the power levels? Other computers on the network have no problem so im fairly sure its not a router issue and it only started when i reinstalled windows. Sometimes it can lose connection when i am browsing (less than 1 minute between web page changes) which i didnt think was long enough to be classed as idle. I have tried closing different programs to see if its software causing the issue but no luck so far.

Bringing up this thread again as im getting bad problems again.
Its been ok for a couple of weeks but now its got very bad.

It appears that whenever i try and "use" the connection other than browsing it will disconnect. I usually have IRC connected and i use FTP alot.

I cannot narrow this down other than to both LAN ports on my motherboard being faulty. I have ordered a LAN card to test this theory and hopefully fix this issue.
I've tested the cable using my laptop and have no problems.

Im still accepting any possible solutions/ideas if anyone has any!
