Welcome!

Try running Speccy and finding out what your card is. Then we can look for the drivers online.

If you had trouble finding drivers in Vista for this machine, you will have an even harder time finding them for 7. You may need to buy a newer card.

cound it be because i have recently installed a soundmax version, and now i'm trying to overwrite with a new one?i have uninstalled that version, because my microphone wasn't working, but it keeps appearing in the control panel list of installed programs, even after i deleted all its files from program files in safe mode...

Go into device manager, goto your sound tab and uninstall your current driver, then let windows locate and install the driver... then right click on your speaker icon and select playback devices and make sure that you have selected speakers... for some reason windows 7 selects headphones by default... let us know how it comes out.... ;)

Sound/Driver issues

Hi everyone,

First post, but here goes.

Just upgraded to windows 7 and love it, but got some issues.

Let me explain, My motherboard is an ASUS P5VD2-MX and I have always used on board sound (no sound card) with XP this was working fine, but with Windows 7 it is not. I have visited the ASUS support site and they do not support Windows 7 with this motherboard, but they suggest downloading the old Vista drivers, this makes no difference, so have downloaded the SoundMAx drivers, various versions, and currently got V.6.10.1.6585. After installing this and rebooting sound comes back and music plays almost perfect but with occasional glitches, video plays, but plays very jerky and at around 1/4 speed, and the higher the video quality the worse the performance e.g. HD is unwatchable, Gaming is just not funny. Red alert 3 is my game of choice and takes over 10 mins just to load!!

I have tried uninstalling different versions, I have tried trouble shooting compatibility but this makes no difference,

Is it just a case of this motherboard is plain old and doesn't like Windows 7 or am I missing something?

Any help would be great as this is driving me mad and do not want to go back to XP.

Thanks
