No Gaming While Burning

Can anyone explain why dvd's fail to burn/close out while playing a game?

if the video resolution flickers in ANY way out of "standard" bounds (like odd resolutions for older games) the dvd just quits burning - light goes off.

the best thing i can play on my rig is angry birds space. dud.

i have tried this with several burning proggys and different games, with always the same result; lock up of the burner and or program - hard reset required, or the burn light simply goes off and the program is 'hung' but can be ejected.

another thing too is when i insert a dvd to burn i will NOT burn unless autorun pops up, THEN i start the program i want to burn with AFTER and ONLY after the autorun appears, but that is 80% of the time.

seriously, this is a brand new machine, actually there are 3 brand new custom machines in my house and have swapped burners, video cards - you name the combo, i have done it. you name the fix - I HAVE DONE IT.

this i am chalking up to simply Windows glitches and or software manufact glitches.

can anyone explain this so i can stop trippin'.:hot:

there is NO fix, it is a computer - i understand that, but can anyone reason with my head why this IS and WHY you think it is like this in an age where windows 8 is about to be pirated??!!:mad2:

PEACE!!!

Do you have the same problem on multiple computers?

I have never heard of the problem you describe. I suspect either the motherboard needs a BIOS update and you should contact the motherboard manufacturer, or your Windows installation is damaged and needs to be re-installed.

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file. To get this: Start Menu -> Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box -> When it opens, go to File, Save -> Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember -> Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info -> Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder -> Upload the .zip file here.

No - i always end up with custom issues LOL.

I have never heard of the problem you describe. I suspect either the motherboard needs a BIOS update and you should contact the motherboard manufacturer,
Mobo manufaturer says, if it works, don't fix it - and to me this is not worth frying my bios and be without a computer till i get a mobo rma'd. i have been attempted to update bios a couple of time, but seriously, everything works fine. It's not like i don't have enough CPU or GPU power to play a simple game and burn @ the same time. matter of fact, why i started this thread was because when I started a simple game "the world of goo" while i was burning (knowing i can't play a heavy graphic game) it adjusted my reolution to a funky size, and BAM! that's all the burn wrote! the light went off and had to restart to ensure i didn't get a corrupted burn again by simply slapping in another DVD.

or your Windows installation is damaged and needs to be re-installed.
fresh or old install - same thing. been there 3 times now

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file.
are you serious?? i was just wondering if anyone had ever had a similar problem. but ok, if you wanna dig, be my guest.

been there and done all that.

you know, most of us know the REAL truth about cost vs. product when it comes to storage. DVD's were sold under the premise that this storage medium was superior - when in ALL reality i still have LP's and cassettes that have outlived my DVD's & CD's 1000 times over. go figure.

Hard drives are the only good way to store anything at the moment - well until they perfect those nano implants LOL (joke folks.)

PEACE!

It does not look like there is a BIOS update that specifically addresses your problem, so it would be best to contact BIOSTAR to get help if you want to go that route.

Possible problematic software:
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\AMD\OverDrive	Public:Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\AMD\OverDrive	Public
Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\UltimateDefrag	Public:Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\UltimateDefrag	Public
Start Menu\Programs\MSI Afterburner	PHENOM\Majestic One:Start Menu\Programs\MSI Afterburner	PHENOM\Majestic One
AMDOverdrive and MSI Afterburner both provide software overclocking. They are both known to cause conflicts in systems and may be causing issues with your power schemes for the DVD drive.

3rd party defrag programs can interfere with hard disk related activities such as burning a DVD or CD.

Codec packs can also cause problems when burning video to a DVD or CD.

Do you still have issues if you remove the above software?

yeah i am aware of that there really "isn't" an update for bios available - another reason i haven't flashed. again this small tiny issue is not worth frying the board to me.

AMDOverdrive and MSI Afterburner both provide software overclocking. They are both known to cause conflicts in systems and may be causing issues with your power schemes for the DVD drive.
ehh, i just put the AMDOverdrive on when i had to RMA my GPU. it was installed when i installed the onboard drivers for the biostar mobo, and that was like last month. this problem existed long before the Overdrive/msi were installed together. - - - but thanks for the heads up, i will be removing AMDOverdrive. Thank you for that heads up conflict anyway.

3rd party defrag programs can interfere with hard disk related activities such as burning a DVD or CD.
IF this is causing it i will still be satisfied. NOTHING out performs Ultimate Defrag, and I will be using it until they take mechanical HDD's off the market. and then I will STILL be using it. LOL

Codec packs can also cause problems when burning video to a DVD or CD.
isn't THIS true. codec HELL - wt F is up with this kind of bullshit. i guess everybody wants to be a codec hero now days. - but seriously, i was getting no sound a while back and ran through the "codec" problem/issues thing. i even resorted to VLC to test out some theories. come to find out, it was a sound device selection that had got set to default when i had last updated media player mega codec pack, and just happened to NOT play certain videos, and it JUST so happened to be like the VERY next 8-10 videos, - so obviously i thought something was wrong. So i am pretty sure (heh heh) that problem is impar4tial to this issue - THOUGH it still very well could be!

I HATE computers.

Do you still have issues if you remove the above software?
ahh, like i said, i know there is no "real" 'solution' to this issue, i was just wondering if anyone else had ever run into this. it only seems native to this machine, so i am chalking it up to a hardware issue somehow.
Maybe the Mobo is junk and when the south bridge needs some power for the DVD burner, the north bridge sucks it all up for a moment and fuch's everything up. THAT is MY best guess.

Hope you had fun, mate. cheers.

and thank you for your master skills my friend. i will give you brownie points for your time.

--EDIT-- HEH thats cool how when you give reputation, it says "may you be so lucky enough to receive the same in reputation in return" or some crap - that was cool... but "lucky"? i hardly think anyone whom gets rep was "lucky" i DO however believe it is knowledge and skill - MODS you REALLY ought to change that "coincidence" type LUCK thing to something more appropriate.

PEACE!!!
