Hi all.

i have a gigbyte G21mx-s2 motherboard in my media center, i am on windows seven 64 bit, i have a HP pro Curve gigabit switchand a tp-link router. all my devices are hard wired through the switch and the switch is wied in to the router.

the gigabyte website has no drivers for this OS on this board. windows update has updated the driver fairly recently. i am still only showing a speed of 100mbps and the lights on the switch confirm this. other devices on my network are working at 1gbps.

I am using a mixture of cat 6 and cat 5e.

thanks

have you tried swapping the cable on the 100mbs card for one that has 1gbs. Also have u looked at the cards advanced settings for selecting the 10/100/1000?

cant swap the cables due to the location, cable runs outside the house. i just had a look at the advanced properties for the ethernet and there was a setting: auto disable gigabit - disabled. thats all i could see.

any other suggestions?

When you look at the properties of the connection does it say it's running at 100mbps?

By the way, your speeds when transferring files will never actually hit 1gbps. If it did, it would lock up the entire network as that is the absolute maximum speed.

I'm in the same situation on my network, I have a NForce 10/100/1000 card and my network theoretically works at 1gbps but in my ethernet properties, it runs at 100mbps.

Also, if you go to Device Manager and go to the properties of the device you may be able to tell it what speed to run at. However, some cards that run at 1000mbps don't allow that setting for some reason.

can you fill out your system specs? its possible its a driver issue, once we know what card you have we may be able to point you in the direction of the right driver

i wonder... i had all sorts of problems with my card when using the windows provided updates, are there Vista X64 drivers you can install in compatibility mode?

one thing i dont think anyone has asked yet... is the router capable of 1Gb? if not that wouild explain it

Router would not matter. Here at work I have a gigabit switch hooked to a 100 Mb network, any Gigabit devices I plug into it link to the switch at Gigabit speeds but will only get 100 Mb uplink to the rest of the network. Transfers between devices run at Gigabit speeds if the other device is also Gigabit. That's the beauty of a switch vs. a hub, a hub forces all devices to the speed of the slowest device, a switch allows different speeds on all ports.
