No Hurry: Windows creates folder(s) on portable hdd

Like i said in title windows creates folders on my portable hdd and read only and can not be deleted when windows is running folder names look like hash, one time i saw how windows installer dumped automaticly temp files on my hdd. Thats should be all.

I'm not sure I know the question. ???
It sounds like you have temporary files assigned to it. What do you normally store on the drive? What is it's use? Do you have any software programs stored on it? Did you download ZIP files to it?

Drive Name : ADATA CH94
Format Type : NTFS
File Type Stored: Personal Data, Games ISO, Software Installers

Windows creates folder what names look like "a5kjhsdsk4jklshxcu3" it happens when i install stuff to C: drive not my ADATA ( E: ) like C++ redist or DirectX or so on.

Yes, and its auto selected to dump on my ADATA and one time i had folder locked only read only did not help probertis uncheck read only still didnt allow to delete. Currently i dont have this folder i formated my ADATA

When you are installing new programs on your computer, and at that instance you have already connected the external HDD, some of the installers create a temporary folder on the external drive to expand the setup files before the installation is started. This is normal practice. This happens sometimes with windows and software updates also.

But all good installers delete these folders after the installation is completed. If by any chance you remove the external HDD before the setup is completed, then these folders are left out in your external HDD.

If your installed programs or updates complete successfully, then you can manually delete them from the external drive after rebooting the system once.

I've seen the same thing happen on my system actually - I only have one internal drive but 3 partitions, predictably C:, D: and E: - and on rare occasions some setup will leave behind a folder on E: with names like yours. But I've never had a problem deleting them after setup was well and done. Don't think there's actually any way to turn this off other than by removing all drive letters except your OS partition

How you are getting this lock on the folders?

I have never seen this lock on any of the computers so far?

Is it due to installation of any third party software or is it a standard windows icon?

That lock is a typical Windows feature...you can see it on the System Information folder for example, and a few folders in \Windows\system32 as well...

The lock means that the folder sharing permissions have been changed to not shared.

Now I notice them in Windows Explorer.

The reason I have not seen them before is that I use xplorer2lite for all my file operations and this folder with lock symbol is displayed as a normal folder in xplorer2lite.

I very rarely use Windows Explorer.

Yes this is a Windows 7 thing. I much preferred the Shared Folder overlay of previous versions.
