No Internet or Keyboard with VMWare Player

I have several Virtual Machines, 2000, XP and Vista and all work just fine. I am adding a win7pro VM and after the install it has no Internet connection and the keyboard doesn't work, but the mouse does. Both the mouse and the keyboard (Logitec K270-set) are RF connected and use a single USB-RF dongle.

I have asked on the VMWare site but no responses.

With no keyboard it is almost impossible to try adjustments to the win7 VM. The Device Manager only shows the keyboard as "PS2 Not Started." I tried disabling and enabling, but nothing. With no Internet I can't see if drivers are available to fix this.

The keyboard is working during the initial boot as I can interrupt at the BIOS settings and type stuff at the BIOS-DOS level. Once win7 is running, no keyboard.

Thoughts and suggestions for Internet and keyboard? Please?

Do you have a conventional keyboard to use for setup? A wired USB keyboard should work.

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't work either. I tried the K270 Unifying Logitec drivers and still nothing for the keyboard. The Device Manager still shows it with the yellow exclamation mark. The Device Manager Properties shows it as "Device cannot start because of a problem with the Registry entry." I am on the hunt for a clue to what that might mean.

I feel, it has to be something to do with the VMWare Player as everything else is working fine. I have finally fixed the Internet issue, but the keyboard is fighting back.

So I'm still unsure from your reply. You did or did not plug in a standard wired USB keyboard?

Thanks, but I actually plugged in both a mouse and a keyboard and again, the wired mouse worked, the keyboard is still showing the exclamation mark in Device Manager and not working.

Device Manager error
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the Registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have searched the Internet for that error and tried about a dozen suggestions, but so far nothing helps.

I also searched the Registry and cannot find anything related to the keyboard error, but then, I am not sure what I should be searching for anyway.

One thing that works sometimes is to delete the device in Device Manager that has the problem. Then reboot with the device connected. Windows will say it has found new hardware and install the driver you just removed. For some reason this seems to :seat" the driver. It seems to work more than half the time.

If that doesn't work you might try a previously released VM Player. The latest version may have introduced a regression they aren't aware of yet.

Thanks, but I had already tried that. I even bought a retail version of win7 and installed that on an older laptop, then used converter to make a P2V and still no keyboard.

What I was able to do was install tightvnc. I was then able to send keyboard stuff to the VMGuest.

Laptop-keyboard --> TightVNC --> VMWare Player --> Win7Guest --> TightVNC Server --> Win7 DUH!!!

So, I can at least use it. I will try converting the VMDK to a VHD and see if VPC2007 does any better.
