I have a lost or hidden "My Documents" folder. I am having trouble with a software program and my friend said that he had a file in his My Documents. I tried to find a My Documents on my PC but nothing is listed. My wife has a My Documents under User Name/Documents. We both are using Win 7 HP.

My question is how do I get a My Documents folder without having to do a clean install?

I run CCleaner, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware each night. I just ran SFC (no problems). I think my PC clean. I have "unhidden folders" but still no joy.

Any help or ideas please.

Thanks

IT should be located at C:\users\[insert user name]\My Documents. You can just type it in to the address bar in explorer. Do you run the registry cleaner part of CCleaner?

By the way you can check whenever this folder appear here (see attached thumbnail for the path in taskbar). If not, create it named as "personal" a new binary expandable value and set the path as mentionned to re-create it.

Mr

OK got it. When I went to create a new My Documents folder I got a box that said I already had a folder with this name. Did a "unhide" of system files and then found it under Documents.

Why would MS hide this file? Seems dumb to have to go to all the trouble to unhide a folder before you can use it. Oh well..............

Mark solved and thanks for the quick response.

Explorer has a "Documents" icon for that folder under "Libraries" (unless you removed it by hand). It's a LOT easier to find that way for most people.

If you want to get down into the nitty gritty of that and other user files then yes you need to go to your users folder, though strangely it is not hidden by default on my machine. "Contact", "Desktop", "Favorites", "My Documents" etc are all in plain view. (Maybe a config default difference between home and pro?)
