Hello,
so... I made the mistake and had my heat sink cleaned by 'professionals'. I had to bring it back again, b/c I couldn't play any games after they had done that, now I really don't wanna bring it back a third time, b/c when I brought it home yesterday I was unable to connect to the internet.
I thought it might be the router since it has been giving troubles for a while now, but a house mate of mine had no problem connecting to the Internet with her phone.
The problem that I have is that I don't get a connection at all and when I sat right next to the router yesterday I had exactly 1 bar in the connection thingy. I would also like to mention that I have had 0 experience with the type of router I currently have, it is connected with a DSL cable and I have only seen those way back in the day when I had 0 experience with computers!
I checked my Event Log and the only thing that keeps showing up is a 7x079 error telling me that the dhcp couldn't give me an ip adress (i think it was, I'm not on my computer right now).
Does anyone know
a) how my wifi adapter could have been destroyed while cleaning a heat sink and reapplying thermal past and
b) how to fix it? What do you need to know to help me?

If I'm slow with answering I want to apologize in advance but I can only get online when I'm at work and I have tomorrow off!

After doing a bit of research here is a couple of things I have tried and didn't work:

1. reset TCP/IP
2. set the wwan autoconfig service to start automatically
3. restored my system to a previous setting from last week
4. unchecked the ipv6 box in my adapter properties

A friend suggested that they might have damaged the adapter if they cleaned the heatsink with high speed air, can that actually happen?

I'm not sure what you mean by firmly connected? As I said if I sit practically on top of it (like right now) I have a connection of 1 bar, and all my housemates have no problem connecting to it.
I've run troubleshoot for what feels like 100 times by now and the only thing it keeps on telling me is to restart the router (which I tried a couple of times as well and it doesn't do anything).

PS: sorry, now I understand, no I haven't tried that, no one in this house has a lan cable (ethernet? whatever it is called). I'm also not gonna buy one, I'll be only here for 4 more weeks, so it wouldn't be worth spending the money. also I don't think it is the router, if it were I shouldn't be the only with problems, there are 3 other people in this house with various devices and none of them are having problems?

Check out Device Manager and see if you have a caution icon next to your wireless driver ? If so.. you need to update / reinstall the driver . If not, then try the troubleshoot program for internet connection. Control panel, Network and Sharing Center, click the Trouble Shoot link .

Didn't do anything. As I said, don't think it is the router otherwise everyone else here should have similar problems and it is just me.

Got the tip to check if all the wires were connected the right way since it has just been cleaned, turns out one of them was loose! Problem solved.
