No Program Files (x86) Windows 7

Hello Everyone,

I am new here as of today. So, hello.
I have a Windows 7 Pro box straight from Dell last month. It has a Program Files, but no Program Files (x86) on it that I can find. I displayed the hidden folders, and didn't see it there. Does anyone know where to find it now? I surely would appreciate it.

It would be right next door to Program Files.

If it's not there then possibly there are no x86 programs installed yet and so has not been created. OR you are using a 32 bit version of Windows 7 and Prgram Files is actually the x86 one? (I'm not positive about the accuracy of that)

If you right click "Computer" in the left pane of Explorer and select properties it'll tell youif you have the 32 bit or 64 bit version about half way down the page.

Do you have 32-bit or 64-bit? Only the 64-bit version has the Program Files (x86) folder. It serves to separate 32-bit programs from 64-bit ones (in theory). As the 32-bit version can only have 32-bit programs, it does not require the extra folder nor the identifying suffix.

Only the 64-bit Windows 7 will have a C:\Programs Files (x86) folder for 32-bit programs and a C:\Programs Files folder for 64-bit programs.

The 32-bit Windows 7 will only have the C:\Programs Files folder for 32-bit programs.

These are system folders and are created by default. So they exist on a virgin clean-install (in other words, an OS on which you haven't installed any other programs).

Thanks to all for your quick replies. I was able to concur that, yes, the program files (x86) is not listed if you have a Windows 7 32-bit OS, which indeed is what mine is. So, problem solved!!
