No restore points!

Hi,

I have a Lenovo L520 laptop with an up to date Windows 7 system. When I create a restore point I get a message saying it was successfully created. Problem: when I want to restore the system Windows tells me there's no restore point.

I did many things to correct the problem (I have enough memory, I checked the services (VCC), chk, etc.) but there's no change. One anomaly - There's no pagefile.sys file on my system...

What's your advice? Thank you.

Cheers

pagefile.sys file should be on C:\ (root) but, as it's a system and hidden file you can't see on Explorer unless Explorer is set to show system and hidden files.

Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System

- Open System protection (on the left). System properties Window will open on the System Protection Tab. Put the mouse over C: and configure.
- Select the Advanced TAB - Performance settings. Performance Options window will open. On Virtual memory select change.
Select Automatically manage paging file size.

There's no pagefile.sys in the root and hidden and system files can be seen.

Automatic managing of the paging file size is already selected. One thing I noticed is that when I try to set the file size and close the Virtual Memory window, I open it again just after and the setting has remained on Automatic managing.

To manually set the pagefile size (my recomendation is to set Max and min equal to twice the memory size. Then you must press Set button.
To take effect, you must reboot.

Thank you! I thought it was enough to click OK to validate the settings like in other windows.

The problem is there's still no pagefile.sys and there's no restore points although Windows tells me I've just created one.

I have no D or E drives and the other attemps remained unsuccessful unfortunately. The pagefile.sys is really not on my computer.

couple more things to look into:

make sure gpedit is not preventing a pagefile from being created:
do start > run >gpedit.msc > computer configuration > administrative templates > all settings, then sort by state to make the "enabled" and "disabled" settings show at the top, and look to see if there is a setting that is causing your issue (the reason for the sort is that you should only have a few, if any, settings in gpedit that are not "not configured"

check regedit to see if there is something preventing pagefile from being created. This post shows where in regedit to look:

Thank you! I checked in gpedit but there's no "enabled" or "disabled" settings and all of them are "Not configured".
