No sound after update

On the 8th of February there was 8 updates available. 3 security updates, milacious software removal tool, powerpoint 2002 update and word XP update, also an internet explorer update. Ever since then I have not had any sound. My sound card is a realtek high definition audio device that is built into my Asus P5Q Pro mobo. I've tried everything, and the only thing that gets the sound to work again is to revert to before the updates. I've had to system restore 3 times and still no luck. Here is what happens:

1. Install new updates.
2. Turn off for the night. The next day I turn it on it's fine. Then I shut down again that night. The day after that I go to use it again and no sound. It has taken 2 shutdowns to lose sound every time.
3. I know the drivers are still the stock ones that came with it. At the moment I just installed the newest drivers possible, released on feb 8th.

I still can not get it to work. What it does is in itunes it keeps the song at 0:00 and never plays. Then with youtube the video plays without audio, but it's extremely choppy. With windows media player, it tells me there was an error because there is no audio device. If I go into device manager and disable the audio driver youtube videos and itunes will play fine with no sound, but when I enable it again it returns.

I'm at a loss. I've tried every setting I could imagine in the audio control panel and still nothing. Please tell me that someone knows a fix.

Nope, it says everything is working as it should. It looks the exact same in the device manager as it did before and it looks the exact same in the audio control panel.

Ok try this, in your sound in Device manager, right click on High Definition Audio Device and click on uninstall.

When it uninstalls it go to the top of the Device manager page and click on the Action button and then on Scan for hardware Changes, and let Windows reinstall it and see if it fixs it.

Try the restore and see if it works, if it does, start to install the updates one at a time until you find the
one that is causing the grief, and then don't install that update whatever it is.

Also type into the start search, troubleshoot, there are a few things to try in there concerning sound, do this first.

Trouble shoot did nothing. Just completed system restore and I have sound again.

I've tried installing updates one at a time before, but somehow they all install at once.

You shoud be able to do them one at a time from the list when you search for new updates.

I presume you now click on the button, check for new updates, when they come in you check to see which ones have just arrived and I am sure there is a check box beside each one, untick them all except one, and install one at a time. I can't show you the page I mean because I have no updates waiting to arrive, sorry.

Installing one at a time does it too. It seems no matter what I install it messes it up. All of my system restore points got deleted so now the only one that I can do is a restore to a point where the updates are already installed, which gives me a day before I have to system restore again.

At the moment I just installed the most recent drivers again and disabled them so it wouldn't cause youtube videos and such to lag. I might need to call mircosoft if this can't be resolved soon.

I have the same exact problem and so do many others. I have checked dozens or sites and none of them have answers to it. The only solution is system restore and not updating. It pisses me off that Microsoft hasn't done anything to solve this after a few years.

Yes I made an account just to say this.
