If it's a Dell model, please post that with the spec's.

GENERALLY, Windows 7 will install many drivers, but depending on your specific PC model you may need Dell specific drivers (or if its an old system it may not even have compatible drivers).

First suggestion, go to the Dell site and if Vista/Win 7 drivers are available download and install (1) Intel motherboard chipset drivers (2) Dell sound driver. Installing the chipset drivers is a must before installing device drivers, as one of the prime things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the hardware devices on or attached to the motherboard. The chipset drivers could by why the video and sound both are not working.

Another issue is memory. 768 MB (less than 1GB and actually less than 2GB) is marginal to run Win 7.

For that Dell, posting the model number would be more helpful than what you've provided.

The MX400 is an old graphics card. There are no Vista or Windows 7 (WDDM 1.0 or 1.1) drivers for it. It may be possible to use drivers for Windows XP, although they would not support Aero Glass. (No tragedy there.) Getting XP drivers to install may take some effort.

The 80GB hard drive and 768MB of RAM suggest that it's an old PC, not a good candidate to run Windows 7. However, you may be able to do it, if necessary.
