NO SOUND , only picture on TV, from display port to HMDi adapter

I can't get sound to my TV from HDMI on my Windows 7 laptop.-->It works fine in a Windows 10 laptop.
So there must be a setting/driver missing.?

In device manager I have the following items:
Under Display adapters : intel HD graphics
& Under Sound video and game controllers: High definition audio device
Updating does not help, as Win says that these are the best drivers installed.

In playback devices, I have only one entree eg "Speakers" as default device
This is possibly where the problem is, having just one device.??
I tried quite few online suggestions, Which ones? Sorry I lost track. Been at it all day.. So far no luck.
Can anyone please help?

the problem might seem to be the display port to hdmi adapter, which will only provide video - no sound

need to use a direct hdmi cable connection between the laptop and the TV [aka. hdmi to hdmi] to get both picture and sound - no adapters involved
meaning there should be an HDMI port on the TV and an HDMI port on the laptop and using an HDMI cable

if there is no HDMI port available on the laptop or on the TV, you will need to use a separate cable connection for sound

edit: or maybe buy another DP to hdmi adapter as the adapter you are using may not be good for your Lenovo laptop
