no sound, who can bring back the music?

Recently I upgraded to Win7 Ultimate. Ever since I'm having trouble with my audio. When I listen to music in any application (like WMP, Winamp or streaming) my sound stops after a limited period of time. This period differs between a few minutes and say 20 minutes.

The applications (ie WMP) simply 'hang'. When I click the play/pause button nothing happens except for changing the symbol from 'play' to 'pause'. The time bar stays in place.

I can reactivate sound by clicking 'sound settings' and perform a sound test in the configuration screen. (I translate these options from Dutch, so names may be different in English: select the used speakers, right click, configure). I get a screen where I can choose between a mono and a stereo test. When I choose the stereo test I get a warning that the speakers are used by an other app. Do I want to continu? On 'yes' it performs an audible stereo test (sound from each speaker seperately) and also resumes the music. It resets something, but what and why!?

Although not exclusively, surfing does make the sound stop. It doesn't matter if I use (my regular) Chrome or IE. (I.e. choosing a new page on NOS Teletekst causes a certain stop). What is triggered by this site?

Who can help me bring the music back? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

(All drivers are up-to-date, speaker set Logitech Z-5 USB)

Have you installed the drivers for your Logitech speakers?

One thing with using USB speakers/headphones, it doesn't matter what sound card you have (either onboard or actual card) as USB speakers/headphones have their own built-in sound card and make no use at all of the onboard or card.

Yes, I installed the Vista drivers as recommended. Unfortunately Logitech has no W7 drivers yet.

How many other USB devices do you have installed? It could be something as simple as one device too many and a conflict/fight over which gets priority.

@Stormy13: I've no more USB devices (3) than ports (4). Besides in Vista (before W7) this sound thing never occured. Your last post - about the driver - gave me a new insight however. I unplugged the USB-speaker from my docking. So now I'm back to my laptop built-in speakers. Horrible sound, but no sound crashes so far!

My preliminary conclusion is that the Vista drivers (that are advised by Logitech) aren't so great for W7 after all... I'll give Logitech a phone call. Keep this forum posted.

to all: finally figured out that it must be the Z-5 software. Called Logitech and explained the whole thing. They send me a new set of speakers after 1,5 years. Great service. Hope this will work.
