I have no sound and I can't figure out why. i've tried updating all kinds of drivers, etc. and nothing happens. (latest realtek, etc.) i've looked at other threads first, and nothing there seems to have worked for me either.

any ideas? see my profile for my specs.

any advice would be amazing

possibly helpful details:
x64 professional
bought upgrade, but had to reformat and do it from scratch because XP Pro was x86
sound worked on XP Pro x86 no problem
when i go to the device manager my sound card is called "High Definition Audio Device"
when I select playback device i'm given two obtions:
a) Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
b) Digital Audio (HDMI)
(never speakers or headphones)

this might be a stupid question, but how do i do that?

EDIT: i've restored prior to all my messing around to drivers. so should i update to latest realtek drivers again?

I know you mentioned that you tried all kinds of drivers; but I just want to make sure that you got the latest ones from the ASUS website

No problem at all to enter BIOS
Reboot your PC and when it begins to boot it will tell you a button to press to enter the bios screen.

It's usually DELETE or F1 but you'll need to read your screen as it boots to find out.
Press it immediately (I press it pretty often up until the bios screen opens).

One your bios is open, look through it for 'enable on board sound' or something similar

RE Drivers - Check the other link that I just posted and use these.

My pleasure. Merry Christmas!

PS - I know.... the asus web site is not user friendly! I always forget what socket chip I have and have to search through all until I find my mobo..... I've had to find yours a few times before though, it's a popular board. :)
