Sorry to bring this up again. I read though all sound related problem and still can't fix mine. I have the dreaded red X on my sound icon :(
How do I enter the bios to see if its turned off there? I tried F2,F10, CTRL/AL/ESC and nothing seems to bring me to anything related to anything other than a reboot screen.
I have no sound card installed in my device manager. It should be Realtek Audio, But all I have is HD Audio.
I have an Acer Aspire 5542 running Windows 7 X64

There is a massive audio driver package for that specific model and acer doesn't provide a easy way to directly link you to it. Though reinstalling the audio package would be my first suggestion.

hopefully that link guides you to the proper download, acer uses too much flash on their support site ...
If that doesn't work we will likely have to work through driver verifier.

I'll try that, But I must of tried to install every driver out there. It was working one minute, Then all of a sudden it stopped and has not worked since. I tried to live without sound for the last 2 months, But I'd like to get it working again. I read in a few threads that it was turned off in the BIOS, How do I check to see if it is? F2, F10, CTRL ALT ESC only bring me to the reboot options :(

Just installed this driver and still nothing. I still have "no speakers or headphones are plugged in" :(
Looks like the laptop will be going out the window :) See if that fixes it ;)

To check in the BIOS as soon as you boot up your machine you should be given an option to access setup. Sometimes its F2 or escape

I did that. All I see is the info of my machine, Security and reboot options. Am I blind and just cant see the option to the integrated devices?

Sorry for being a complete noob guys. I see in device manager that my system speaker has no driver installed, But when I try to install one, It tells me "The best driver has been installed for this device. I don't get it :(

I also have the same thing on my new machine I bought yesterday - without attaching speakers to the line in jack on my PC I do not get any system sound. It's fine when I plug speakers in - most odd and not something I have ever come across before.

two things turn off auto update for drivers in windows, and then uninstall any and all audio drivers in the system and reboot. once booted try the mega-pack again. if still not, try f1 or delete to get into bios setup.
