No sound

hi guys . i have another problem and you have always sorted it for me. what a forum this is , great.. i have no sound. the drivers ok and it says that the device is working perfectly. the start up sounds work ok but there is a red cross over the speaker in the toolbar thingy.. i did a troubleshoot and it came up with the sound might be switched off in windows.. anyone explain where that is and how i rectify it..many thanks in advance.................................unit is a sony vaio vgn-fj3m

You need to Download the Vaio Event Service ....

hi its me so it is, im back. i downloaded the event service and it didnt do a lot. the updates it found are in xp becuase this laptop is old but ive brought it back to life.. if it was a driver problem which ive had on another laptop i found that the drivers wernt available for this old model so i was able to use the vista disc to get it running but this time it says drivers ok and working properly but could be switched off by windows.. i was wondering if theres something in the bios which is turned off but i suppose cause it plays start up dittie that cant be it.. any thoughts....many thanks sj

Start search Type Sound ... Any thing in the Settings that can be changed ? ...

Click Start in the Search type Sound ... In sound Settings see if you can change any thing ...

it says no audio output device installed but device manager and properties say its working properly even if i try and update drivers it says the best driver installed..no luck with settings.... any more ideas. many thanks

Try this Go to the Device Manager select the Sound Device / Disable and then Enable ..
