Hi,

I have had windows 7 for a few months and it has been running fine,
today when I turned on my laptop I do not seem to have any startup programs plus the desktop windows manager keeps need restarting for Aero themes to work.
I have tried adding the programs to start up but with no luck.
Is there anyone who knows of a fix please?

Thanks

Plus I should mention all my gadgets disappear on restart.

Easiest fix would be if you can set back to a previous restore point. Did you install anything (including updates) prior to the happening?

You say "I tried restoring" - did that not work and what happened?

The actual restore worked.. But it did not fix the problem..

If you restored to a time when this problem was not occuring and the problem did not go away, then it is not an OS problem (unless you did not take a restore point far enough back). Now we have to look at a hardware problem. Does that make sense to you?

Yes I see what you mean.. How would I check the hardware?

Well, for starters you could check the disk with chkdsk in elevated cmd. Best is to use chkdsk c: /f then it will fix bad sectors on C (which I assume is your OS disk).
