Hi there,

Recently, when I start up my laptop with Windows 7 Prof (64 bit) I don't hear the startup sound it should make. It did make it before, but a few days ago it suddenly disappeared. I checked the settings (in the sound menu) and the little box where it says 'Play windows startup sound' certainly is ticked! How can I make it work? Other windows sounds just play normally and the sound-scheme I'm using is the standard one.

Thanks,

Gabriël

Since it's a recent problem, the System Restore should fix it. Restore the system back to a date when it did work OK. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

System Restore won't delete any user data or e-mails, but if there were any program changes (updates/deletes, etc) they will have to be redone.

I have noticed that if I change my desktop to something other than an Aero scheme, I lose the little tune when the system boots.

I tried this, but it gave me an error: some 'path' wasn't found, and after that I got an error code, which I forgot...

The strange thing is this morning when I started my computer, it suddenly played again! And I didn't change any settings! It's weird, because now I'm not sure if the problem is fixed for ever or if there still is some fault..?

ps. My desktop has the Aero scheme, so that can't be the problem...

Update: after a week or so the sound stopped again. I tried a system restore and this time that worked. But now it disappeared again! I'm not even changing any settings and I don't feel like doing a restore everytime. Does anybody have an idea why this happens and how I can solve it?
