Hi everyone.

I came accross a major issue where after my computer updated last night, I now cannot use the WIFI, the USB ports not the Ethernet port on my laptop.

I am trying to unistall all the updates now but I fear it won't work..

Any suggestions, please let me know.

I'll keep you updated.

Are there any exclamation points or red x's in the device manager?

it sounds like Windows update has installed a load of drivers that your PC didn't like, or the update process failed. THe first thing I would try is a system restore: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

If that doesn't work, then please post a screenshot of your Disk management screen with all of the failed devices (with exclamation marks) showing so we can direct you to the correct drivers.

unfortunately, the system restore was not setup on my laptop!
I have managed to roll back the Ethernet driver but I cannot do the same on the other devices.

I think the easiest thing for you to do here is to go to your laptop manufacturer's website and download the drivers and reinstall them.
I don't know what exactly has gone wrong here, but it's quite obvious this is a driver based issue, reinstalling them fresh should solve the problem and the manufacturer should have them all located in one place for you to get easy access to them.

you'll apparently want to do this using the lan for internet, which is what I'm guessing you are doing right now.
as I don't see any way to get the data moved to that system from another until you at least get the intel chipset installed.

thanks for the advice, the problem is that Dell refused to update the drivers to windows 7 (the laptop was originally installed with windows vista...)

i'll have to do some research on the web to find them again.

you recomend install the intel shipset first then?

Here is the download page for your laptops drivers: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...bIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False (I have already selected 64 bit for them)

I would recommend updating each and every one of the drivers which has failed. You may need to uninstall them from Device Manager first, but I'm not sure that will be necessary.

One concern I do have, is I dont see any USB drivers, although I think they may be included in the chipset.

Lastly, as you are on 64 bit, and these are Vista drivers, Windows 7 doesn't always play nice, so use this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/98073-drivers-install-vista-drivers-windows-7-a.html

Yes for the ich8 intel driver pack the usb drivers are part of the chipset. As are most of the other things he seems to be having trouble with. The wifi device will be separate though.

That's fine then, I wasn't sure, Intels site said they weren't, but it was talking about ich4. I didn't want to mislead the OP

No luck so far, I have had to use generic drivers already installed on my pc.

Wait... is it working with the generic drivers? for USB and chipset that shouldn't make a whole lot of difference, as Windows has alot of drivers already built into it that are WDDM signed and bundled with Windows 7, the wifi will probably be the one that needs updating.

Yes, intel drivers especially should not be a problem. So long as the marks are gone from in front of them you should be okay.
I would reboot after making the changes just to see to it that they stick.
