No wireless

Howdy:

I bought a new machine for the old Ball & Chain. I've not used Windows since XP, so am basically lost. I think I'm doing this right. And I did RTFM -- all 7 pages of it. I have no idea why MSI didn't send more info.

Anyway:
Unboxed the machine, and installed all the drivers from the manufacturer's CD. I've fumbled my way into the Device Manager, and I see that the NIC(s) are installed correctly:
-802.11bgn 1T1R Mini Card Wireless Adapter
-Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
-Nvidia nForce Networking Controller

Correctly = no X icon or anything and in the properties it says it's working fine.

The 3rd one, the wired connection, now works, although it took a couple of reboots.

When I go to
Control Panel -> Network & Internet -> Network Connections
I see each of the three devices. The two wirless ones have the red X under the icon and say "Not connected". They are active though.

When I got to the Network & Sharing Center, and open Wireless Network Admin thingy on the left, I don't see my network broadcasting (although I've confirmed it is w/ other machines). I tried manually setting up, but that of course didn't work.

It's Sunday, so local support is conveniently not available.

Any help is appreciated

EDIT: To be sure, I disabled the Windows Firewall, and just about anything I could in Norton, which I absolutely despise but haven't figured out how to uninstall yet.

Couple of quick thoughts. Have you rebooted the router? Can you taka a screenshot of the output from ipconfig /all (type cmd in search>ipconfig /all). You can use the built in snipping tool for the screenshot (type snipping in search)

Yes, rebooted the router a few times. Was going to do ipconfig /all but can't find the command prompt. As per before, this is my first time w/ any Windows made in the last 8 years.

Okay, the main gist of ipconfig /all for "both" of the Wireless NICs is "media not connected". I have no clue what that means. The MAC address seems fine. The VIrtual one seems to be assigned the "next" MAC address.

EDIT: I've not done the screen shot as it's a Japanese language OS.

Aight, we'll chalk this one up to not teaching an old dog new tricks. The laptop has button which toggles the wireless. The Troubleshooting wizard actually pointed it out but it took me ages to find the button (The icon is a little silly) and it required a reboot of the laptop to pick up mine or my neighbors networks.
