I am using Windows 7 aswell and have Avast Premium installed too.
After a critical Windows update this weekend, my legitimate OEM Dell operating system suddenly flagged up as a non-genuine copy.

Avast was updated this weekend too, however this is not the issue, it was coincidental to update at the same time. I have eliminated this is an issue by doing a system restore before Avast made an update, I then disabled Windows update immediately and proceeded to update Avast and there are no problems.

The two recent critical Windows Update's are causing these problems on my system:
1. My internet is partly connected..
(the network symbol in the right hand start menu usually shows a sky blue disc shaped sign when my Ethernet is connecting, this particular occasion it remains instead of dissapearing).
2. The start menu is malfunctioning..
(when I load start menu programs like MS Paint do not visibly load on my desktop, they run hidden in the background and can be seen in 'processes' in the task manager).

As it worked for me, I would suggest Starting your PC, hit F8 repeatedly until a screen prompt arrives. In the prompt, find System Restore.
Do a System restore before Avast and Windows Update installed anything.
This should restore your PC back to how it was before.

Disable Windows Update when you successfully load windows. You can update Avast without any issue.
These critical updates are the problem, I personally will make a complaint to microsoft.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
