Non-UAC related Windows Gadgets Problem

I bought a wireless HP printer (Photosmart C4795) on black Friday this last year, and had a horrendous time setting it up. In the process, something happened to my Windows gadgets. They open up, work great, but all of a sudden, they'll be missing the next time I look at my desktop and the process won't be displayed in the task manager. If I reopen Windows gadgets, they all show up again fine and dandy, but eventually will disappear again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? The printer software did try to automatically install a gadget that I removed, so could this be the issue? I don't think my TrendMicro is screwing it up since it worked fine with the gadgets before the printer.

I guess I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, Home premium on an ASUS G50Vt-X5 that is barely a year old, and in very good health.

Thanks.

Nobody else has experienced this problem or has any suggestions?

Thanks, I'm running the scan now as I have tried enable and disabling the widget platform. Also tried deleting the settings folder and ended up with no changes.

Some errors were found on the scan. I've attached the .txt file generated by the checker.

Any ideas on how to decode this? I see you can possibly repair it by replacing the files, but I received my Win7 update from online via Microsoft and Digital River or something through the student discount deal. Can I do it from those files, or no? My girlfriend just got a Windows 7 laptop that may have the Windows disk included, could I pull them off there?
