Hi all, just thought i'd post to warn you all of my experience with norton 2010 beta for win 7 32 bit.I've always been a norton user but i must report that when i installed it on my win 7 32 bit it slowed my system down that much that i was pulling my hair out. Then when i tried to uninstall via the norton removal tool it reported that it had worked but it was still present in my software list.i then tried to remove it via the control panel and it gets stuck on 20% and after several attempts i gave up and just decided to reinstall it again but no luck........before install it tries to uninstall the previous version itself and gets stuck at 20%.I am now left with no AV and am reluctant to install another one for fear of conflict issues. The only thing i can do now is reinstall the whole OS, a right PITA!I agree that system security is important and it will always take some amount of resources but seriously my system was that slooooow with norton that any advantages gained in new tech/OS h/ware were fully negated;apart from that win7 32 bit runs wonderfully smooth and fast for me.Has anyone else had similar experience with norton product and what did you do to resolve the problem?

Windows 7 is compatible with Norton AV 2010 Beta. In fact, I'm using NIS 2010 Beta and it works well in 7. I think that there's something in your PC conflicting with this. Why don't you contact Symantec and elaborate about your problem? It's the only way a solution can be made.

Hmm that is strange because i have nothing installed on my PC but win 7 and norton AV 2010 beta. And i have tested with and without the norton beta.I can however report that norton 2009 NIS worked very well with win 7 apart from a known driver incompatibility issue (which worried me somewhat) so i decided to start from scratch and reinstall win 7 and go with the norton beta.BIG MISTAKE in my experience, and it wouldnt be so bad really if it wasn't for the fact that i cannot get rid of the beta from my system.I think i will just reinstall win 7 and D/L norton 360 2009 and just make do with the driver incompatibility issue, at least my system was running more efficiently overall. Can you honestly say that you are happy with the overall system performance and speed after installing the norton 2010 AV beta? From the little research i have done on other forums (which i should have done before hand) Norton is way down on the list of AV soft that works well with win 7 (certainly as far as speed is concerned) i mean what is the use of technological advance if your AV is just gonna bring it all back down to square 1 again?

The reason i havent contacted norton is i am starting with a fresh install with no other softs installed, the math on this was pretty easy for me.
Fresh install Win 7 with no norton beta installed = run smoothly.
Fresh install Win 7 with norton beta installed = slooooooooooooooow.

thx for your reply though and i'm glad your happy with it.

Norton Products are really excellent. Trust me, I've used nearly every Security Product and none offer the performance and superiority that Norton does. It is of course natural that a Beta version of Norton 2010 AV experiences problems with Windows 7.

I'm sure you hate Norton terribly but until you experience and use the latest Norton Products, you should neither think lowly nor insult it. I recommend you try out Norton Internet Security 2010 once it is out of Beta. You will definitely like it.

And Dinesh, can you speak Tamil? I'm Singaporean but I speak Tamil. Haha

best pest, i assume you have not followed the thread from the start because in it i clearly state that i have been a long term norton user and the problems i detailed were from norton beta 2010.I like norton, i wasnt asking for any testimonials, just disappointed after having used norton for so long and was wondering if anyone had similar experiences. And dinesh, maybe you should follow the thread also, or maybe we are all confused....because i stated in an earlier post that i too was very happy with 2009 norton except that the driver incompatibility issue bugged me somewhat so i decided to try the beta.for anyone that has had good experiences with norton......i'm glad for you, but you are not really helping me, i was asking for peeps who have had similar experience to myself and could possibly offer a workaround so that i too could continue to use a product that has always integrated smoothly with my setup until now.

oh and best pest, you dont by any chance work for norton do you because your two earlier posts clearly contradict each other.i think you just lost your job lol.

I think you have misunderstood. I was referring my second post to Dinesh who said "Another reason to hate Norton". I wasn't referring it to you.

Users testing Windows 7 along with Norton Internet Security 2010 or Norton AntiVirus 2010 may come across some issues that were corrected with later non-public builds of Windows 7. The issues listed below are issues that are already corrected with Windows 7 builds, or will be corrected on a future Windows 7 build:
Known Issues - Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus 2010 Public Beta - Norton Community

I'm running Windows 7 Build 7260 and it works fine for me. I think that If you are using Windows 7 RC or a older Build. That may be the cause of why this is happening. I'm not 100% sure though.

Also, I recommend posting your problem on the Norton 2010 Beta Forums instead of the other Norton Forum that you originally posted it on.

http://community.norton.com/norton/board?board.id=nis2010_pb

Lastly, try this.

1) Delete your Norton Directory usually inside Program Files
2) Uninstall your Norton product using Norton Removal Tool

3) Delete this directory:

Windows Vista / Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\Norton

4) Re-download and run the installer. Leave your computer running the installer for at least 30 minutes.

If all this doesn't help, I'm sorry but I really have run out of ideas.

Regarding removing the beta I would ask on the symantec beta forum. You could also try the norton removal tool again. Having the beta still showing as an installed program in the "programs and features" list doesn't necessarily mean it's actually there. It may only mean the entry wasn't removed from the list. Try running services.msc to view all started services. If any Symantec services are still present/running you can stop and disable them. As another poster noted you can also seek out and destroy any remaining norton folders and files :geek: Hope this helps.

You know its going to be bad when they have to make their own removal tool to scrape it off your system and even that fails. I gave symantec every opportunity. I used NU, Ghost, Norton Av, Norton 360, etc, etc and every time the footprint eas so large that it proved useless. I have given up on symantec, their products, their support, and their live update. No Im not a fan

If none of the above worked for you, I have one final solution that just popped into my mind. Use programs like Smarty Uninstaller, Advanced Uninstaller Pro or Perfect Uninstaller to force remove norton. They will remove all associated registry keys of Norton and delete all remaining Norton Files on your PC. I advice you to use Advanced Uninstaller Pro of the three above. You have to pay for it but I think you can use it as a trial first. Cheers :)

Tekkas,
Time to reinstall Win7 and go with another AV.
Microsoft Security Essentials will work while you test the rest of the OS features. If you must use Norton wait until it's out of beta.
