OK today I installed and tested Norton Internet Security 2011 beta.

Installation is pretty simple and nothing has changed from the previous version.

1.png

2.PNG

Main Window:

3.PNG

As usual, 3 scan options: Quick, Full and Custom.

4.PNG

The activity map shows WorldWide CyberCrime Activity of the previous 24 hrs.

5.png

Safe Web tab can check a website's reputation before you go to that website from your browser.

6.png

Quick Scan was extremely fast and took less than 30 secs.

7.PNG

Operates under 30 MB RAM.

8.PNG

There are many more options and features available in the new Norton 2011 beta.
Will check the detections and removal of viruses later.

Norton has mainly concentrated on the product design IMO> Better effects, eye candy, etc. But its important to see how good it performs in tests. ;)

Dinesh.

Operates under 30 MB RAM.
My first install on an XP VM, it used about the same. Second install, it used about 14MB.

RAM isn't important these days on new computers. CPU and I/O read/write speeds are what count. Norton have made tremendous improvements in these areas since the 2010 versions.

From my (tiny) tests SONAR 3 is very powerful.

IF you plan to uninstall it, do not uninstall it via Programs and Feaures. It will give you an error and will leave many things behind. Use Revo Uninstaller to remove Norton 2011 beta.

Thanks for the heads up but I will be reverting back to an image with just Windows and Office installed. Planned on doing it so I thought I would try N2011 BETA on Windows 7.

Does Norton know about that? I haven't seen anything in their BETA forum.

No they must not be aware of it. I have contacted them about this issue. No reply yet.

You may be interested in the sale at Frys.com. They have NIS 2010 (bundled with Norton Utilities Lite and Ghost) - free after rebate. You will be able to use the key with NIS 2011.

Symantec has posted a new beta build of NIS and NAV (18.0.0.128) on the beta center, which should contain fixes for all of the bugs we have reported so far.

A key valid for 120 days comes with it, since they will be slowing down the release cycle in the following month, until general release. I guess it also means they are quite confident in this build, and it seems like all potential patches will probably come through LiveUpdate.

WIth regards to the fact that NIS2011 doesn't uninstall properly, it's a common 'feature' when beta testing any Norton product. I'm a beta tester and we are always told to revert to a previous image when uninstalling the current build.

IF you plan to uninstall it, do not uninstall it via Programs and Feaures. It will give you an error and will leave many things behind. Use Revo Uninstaller to remove Norton 2011 beta.

Booooo......It's stuff like this that keeps me from installing and using apps like this. I shouldn't have to use a 3rd party tool to get an application off my machine properly. That's a Norton issue.

The new versions are much better at removing themselves.

There may be some entries left over (like many other programs) but they shouldn't create a problem.

Well, the new build has an application error at shutdown for some of us, or all, we're working on it. :D

On the preceding discussion, I can remark that the usual uninstaller has worked well for me.
