Hi Jujju17,

Welcome onboard.

Try formatting it with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool v2.2.3

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Download - Softpedia

( Right click on HPUSBDisk.exe and Run as administrator. Please remove all other external drives/flash drives so that you do not accidentally format a wrong drive. Please be aware that formatting will not destroy the data, but will make data recovery difficult if not impossible provided your drive is good)

The device itself is not shown(recognised). Your HDD may be beyond resurrection. If it is under warranty RMA it.

I would try opening the case and connecting the drive directly to the computer. In fact, I would have done that long before trying to format or repartition the drive.

Often, it is the electronics inside the enclosure that fails but the actual drive is OK. If you had important data on it that you wish to recover, it still might be worth a shot to open the enclosure to see if the drive is OK. Opening the enclosure would most likely void any warranty.

If the data is not all that critical, then I agree with jumanji, if the drive is still under warranty, RMA it.

You will see a regular hard drive plugged into a small circuit board. Unplug the drive from the circuit board and then you can attach it to your computer as you would any other hard drive. If you are using a desktop then you should be able to connect it to your motherboard using data & power cables. If you are using a laptop then you will need a USB adapter.

Way to go since you said it is no longer under warranty..If your HDD itself is OK, you should be able to access it with a direct connection sans the Sata to USB bridge interface card inside the enclosure.

FYI Guys, not all ext. drives have conventional connectors in the drives, such as WD My Passport.
