unbearable

Does your machine have a factory recovery partition that you can use to restore the installation?

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Noel will steer you right on activation. It sounds like you did a reinstall, but not OEM, otherwise it would have been pre-activated. Computers usually have a factory restore function that will take the machine back to the way it was from the store, and it will already be activated. If the machine is due for a refresh, this would take care of both problems. Gateway (Acer) usually has an "eRecovery" program installed that does this.

hi, again sorry for the delay but this time its due to my machine doing a complete crash! after sending my last message i shut down as normal going to start then clicking shutdown. several hours later i attempted to restart and nothing. both the battery and external power source lights were on ok. i pulled the ex power source and removed the battery and waited for sveral hours to restart----nothing except again the power lights came on but just back screen, no access to anything including my desktop, etc. might anyone have an idea as to what is happening? i don't have a clue. is my machine toast or is there hope? I wish to thank NoelDP and Paul1149 for their timely assistance but at this moment i am w/o a machine.

You should start a separate thread on that. I would pull all power sources, then press the On button for 20 secs. Release for 10, press again for 5. If that doesn't work take out as many components as possible. Use only one stick of RAM, then try a dif. stick in a dif. slot. I had this happen just three days ago, on a gateway as well.
