I don't think my hard drive came with the jumper.... I guess I could take the one off my old hard drive? They're both WD.

A jumper is a jumper. Steal one from an old hard drive, CD drive, motherboard, anything.

Not usually. Jumpers are easy to come by. Find any old computer, and I guarantee you can find one.

Windows 7 doesn't seem to recognize my hard drive during installation. The hard drive, along with the computer, are brand new.

In my bios it says:

IDE Channel 1 Slave [WDC WD5000AAKS-00V1A]

The hard drive is a 500GB Western Digital Caviar Blue and the motherboard is a Gigabyte MA785GT-UD3H.

If not showing,Remove your hard drive,& test in a working PC.

In your other thread, is not showing BIOS.

Setting it to master-single is by not having a jumper on it. That is how I have it.

Well, I was going to get another 2GB of ram later on, but I guess that might be a while.

Alright, I plugged my HDD back into the SATA0 port and it doesn't show up but my disc drive showed up in the SATA1 port. I then switched the two and the HDD showed up in the SATA1 port but the disc drive didn't show up in the SATA0 port.

Seems like I may have a faulty motherboard?

But even though the drive doesn't show up in bios, it loads and plays discs.

Whatever is in the SATA0 port doesn't seem to show up in bios. I switched it to the SATA1 port and it shows up, but now my disc drive is in SATA0 and doesn't show up. It still works though.

Now you have HD showing, yes.

Try this:

Remove your DVD,& install win7 from USB stick.

I tried that. My hard drive won't show up in the windows 7 installation. It says I need to load the drivers. I try to load the drivers from C: but when I click it it says the drive doesn't exist or something similar.

I too thought that, but I wasn't sure how change it to master. Do I just change the jumper placement? Currently, there wasn't one on.

There are NO jumpers on SATA HD's

Doc, that's not necessarily correct. Often times they have a jumper to enable the 3GB/s mode, or limit it to 1.5.

Thanks Jonathan,

So far I have had only 200gb to 1.5tb SATA drives, therefore I have not seen 2tb or 3tb with the jumpers :o I guess I better get some so I am not outdated.

No, I am not referring to 1.5 and 3TB drives. I am referring to SATA I and SATA II. SATA II supports up to 3Gb/s, while SATA I only supports 1.5Gb/s.

Try cleaning out that malfuctioning SATA port; look for dog hair, dust, damage etc.

Plug the HD to the SATA port which registers in BIOS.

Write the Win7 ISO to flash stick using Ultra ISO trial version bootable tab: View attachment 44015

Boot from the flash stick by tapping key given on first bootup screen for Boot Menu, or Enter BIOS setup to set Flash (may be listed as Hard Drive) to boot first.

Eventually repair/replace SATA port which is not registering or consider replacing mobo.

Well since you can get to the Drives selection screen, try inserting SATA controller driver in Load Drivers link.

Unzip to flash stick/CD and browse til it picks up the driver.

Alright, slightly promising update. The driver install actually worked this time. The bad thing is that my choices of where to install windows are:

Disk 1 Partition: My book (my external hard drive I used to load the driver)
Disk 1 Unallocated Space (no idea)
