Have you checked the default audio device settings in your sound control panel?

My buddy used to have this problem with his laptop and TV. I can't remember exactly how he fixed it, but it had something to do with a second or third tier setting within the audio device preferences. Of course, that was an XP operating system, and the hardware was older. It was exactly as you describe though, including the sound meter registering a signal, but no sound from the speakers.

I'll try and get in touch with him and see if he remembers the fix he used. But if I were you, I would search the web for the exact model and issue you're facing. Also, you might check all the audio settings on your T.V. as well. Sometimes if you dig deep enough into the internal menus you can find a setting that's incorrect.
