Notebook not detecting DVD Drive

Hi, I'm running a new Windows 7 laptop and I just tried to play a DVD on it and the laptop is not detecting the DVD drive at all. I can hear the DVD drive working and the disc spinning but even on My Computer it does not detect that there is a DVD drive on the system, can anyone help me please?

Edit:- CD Drive shows up on the BIOS but not on Windows.

Welcome!

Can you see the drive in Device Manager? If so, try updating the drivers. If they are already up-to-date, try uninstalling them and rebooting.

If that doesn't work, I might suspect a hardware issue. In that case, seeing as the laptop is new, you might want to contact Customer Support to see about getting it repaired.

Tried the above, unfortunatly it didn't work. The drive is TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C and I can't find drivers for it online.

In Device Manager, find your drive and uninstall the drivers. The reboot, and let Windows reinstall them. When that is done, go to Device Manager again, right-click on your drive, and select Update driver software.

Is Device manager showing a code 31 for the device? If so, try Cannot Access CD-ROM and "Code 31" Error Message in Device Manager After You Remove Adaptec Easy CD Creator from Your Computer I know it applies to Win 2000 and XP and removing CD Creator but I know someone that's used it on 7 already.

Ok, I've managed to fix it somehow, I think System Restore may have done something, strange why it happened in the first place though.
