Hi all, I'm a newbie of 7F. I have a question and need your help!:)

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64bit and there is a problem after Windows updating to SP1.

Nothing happen, more exactly, navigation buttons, preview pane in Control Panel and system icons did not changed after replaced explorer.dll, shell32.dll in C:\Windows\System32&SysWOW64.

Even, I don't remember how did I replaced them, some times, Windows got trouble with explorer.exe at startup and I had to used Hiren's Boot Disc to changed them to original.

I have not got these troubles with Windows Ultimeta 32bit in another laptop of mine, and Windows 7 Pro 64bit, too. Only W7P64SP1 is bad. :zip:

The same case happened with SndVolSSo.dll, pnidui.dll, ActionCenter.exe. I really don't understand why I replaced them but the icons, images still be original. Where is location that Windows get resouce images, isons to shows??? It even is more difficult to understand than Advanced Relativity Theory.

Please help me if you know how to fix this. Thank so much!

Welcome to the Seven Forums

Did these system files come with the theme you are using? If so post a link to the theme you are using so I can look at the files.

Sometimes after a update Windows will replace some of the system files and you lose your custom system files so you need to update the new ones.

I got/made resource images, icons and used Restorator 2009/ ResHacker to modified those files. Theme that I using is based on Placebo by Solmier on deviantART, I changed some things. After Windows Updates, I use those software to modify one more time and nothing happen as in original Windows.

I just did some testing and your images seem okay( I use your images not the .dlls)
Try doing Option 2 of this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. It will change any .dll you have changed back to the default.
Then I would try making the .dlls again and see what happens.

Have you used the same .dlls on a different computer?
If so did they work?

I just did some more testing I used your images and my .dlls for 32 bit using VMware and they work perfectly fine except for one thing in the Explorerframe.dll you need to also change bitmap image #581
If you would like me to make up some .dlls for 64-bit using your images let me know.

I have tried your guide but one more time, nothing happen. They still be original. Where does Windows get resource images/icons to views? I changed. It's impossible to understand.

By the way, thank you so much for help! ;)

If you are changing the system files properly and you are changing them in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 then I'm not sure what's going on it should work.

Maybe you need to do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html and then try again.

Sorry but I am out of ideas

Did you ever do the sfc /scannow?

Did you ever tried the Repair Install?

What is your DPI setting at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/443-dpi-display-size-settings-change.html small, medium or large?

Jerry

I have tried all. Even I have just re-install Windows 7 Professional 64bit without updates and the new error appear at startup:
"explorer.exe Application error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

One moretime, I had to use Hiren's Boot Disc again. So sad!!!:sleepy:

Just found this thread because I'm having the same problem. Actually I never got explorerframe.dll replacement files to work so I want to tackle this once and for good.

I used a "Taker Ownership" reg file from deviantart but I removed it and tried the one originally suggested on these forums and STILL it won't work. Those explorerframe files belong to a theme I'm trying to apply. Without these files working the theme looks incomplete. :(

Edit: Looks like it works but not entirely. The icons are still the default windows icons. :(

Welcome to the Seven Forums

Post a link to the theme and I will look at it.

Are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7?

I'm using 64 bit.

This is the theme: Lucido by =kiko11 on deviantART

I might be wrong. I think that explorerframe.dll did work after all. I thought its suppose to change the icons as well but it only does that for the navigation buttons and it was just revealed to me that I need Iconpacker to change to those grey icons.

Hey, I just noticed a problem that I already encountered before when trying to replace explorerframe.dlls. It seems that the "favorites" are gone from the "file browse" window. Every time I have such window, the left pane is missing all these very important items so I can't access the desktop easily for saving a file.
