What I want is the 4th possibility: Only show icon and hide notifications.

I doubt it, but are you referring to Media Player Classic Home Cinema?

With notifications, it is all or nothing unless the particular program has the option within the program options.

Well, some notifications might be considered desirable, even necessary. But if you are sure

i would have it hidden with no notifications ,it usually only shows when you play a movie

@bill I'm sure I dont need any I have nothing much down there...just a network usage meter, volume, network, and anti virus icon. I need no notifications from my anti virus as its icon's color changes when it needs attention.
