Hey guys.

Basically, I am trying to shrink my system partition, but "\$Secure::$ATTRIBUTE_LIST" is preventing me from doing so. To my understanding, this was created because the MFT got full at some point, though I could be mistaken. Is there any way to rebuild the MFT to remove this file, or at least a way to move this file to the start of the partition? it's really drving me up the wall. Just to be clear, I want to be able to shrink the partition without losing any of the data on it.

Thanks,
Tom.

I will give this a try, Bill, although I should note that I already tried Paragon Advanced Recovery CD 2011. I tried shrinking the drive directly, cloning the drive, and shrinking it in the process, and making a backup of the files on the drive, then restoring them to another smaller partition. All of these methods failed, with some error about cross-linked files. I assume it's talking about the \$Secure::$ATTRIBUTE_LIST file, because when I use the Windows shrink facility, this shows up in Event Viewer.

Hi

You could try Defraggler or the trial version of Perfect Disk to move obstinate files so that partitions can be resized. I managed to do this with Defraggler and then resized using Disk Management within Windows which I think is safer. For Perfect Disk I think the Consolidate Free Space option should cause stubborn files to move.

I already tried Defraggler, pincushion, and it didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, Partition wizard did the trick! Thanks a lot, Bill, this one really had me scratching my head. :)
