I have used Brinks BAT file to clear SystemTray cache, all was good.
- after chosing relevant options all icons I sought were visible in SysTray
Then NumLock is "stuck" in OFF
In registry I changed all values for "InitialKeyboardIndicators" to 2 to unlock NumLock key
- rebooted, but ... all remains broken

All icons have disappeared from the SysTray again __PLUS__ NumLock key is still frozen OFF

Would appreciate any help ... thank you :)

Don't have one, recent enough. :(

My own stupid fault. Today is my second full day on looking for a fix.
So many online "experts" have been less than mediocre because they all give different solutions.

I came unstuck when one "authoritative-sounding" dork suggested all I had to do was change all instances of Registry items
Value : InitialKeyboardIndicators
Data : 2 <<< change data only

This is the first time I have borked the registry ... getting too cocky
Meanwhile I will keep researching and maybe some members from TenForums will look in. Brink I hope :)

One train of thought is the NumLock setting in BIOS
And then some SevenForums tutes by old reliable SevenForums members.
Problem is NumLock setup varies from PC to PC etc, so I have to find an answer for my Lenovo lappy.

What I dont understand is how NumLock was suddenly locked OFF yesterday after 2½years of no problem.

Hi bawldiggle,

Have you recently installed any new software or updates?

Not for several weeks

My Lenovo laptop has several problems one of which is NumLock.
I suspect my system needs a clean install, but finding the time and energy to do it is my problem.
Serious medical conditions are leaving me with reduced energy, so at the moment I hope a patch job will suffice until I have more get-up-and-go.

NumLock locked up permanently after I used Reset_Notification_Area_Icons_Cache.bat (Brink tutorial)

My Sys.Tray icons were randomly disappearing (while the underlying progs/apps were working OK), just could not access their configuration pages. I assumed the notification cache was corrupted after 2½ years and a simple notification-cache clean out would do the trick. I cannot blame Brinks BAT file ... a NumLock - sys.tray connection does not make sense. ?

I had hoped there is a simple BAT/VBS file to reset NumLock back to unlocked (although I never use the numeric keypad for navigation) but so far, no luck. After several hours of research I have assembled a list of all the occurrences of "InitialKeyboardIndicators" key-value in the registry, to compare against a desktop Win-7 I have. There is plethora of parameter values for all the keyboard toggle-keys I have to get my head around. More homework.

Thank you for looking in and offering help :)
