NVidia Banned from Own GPUs

PATENT TROLL OUTFIT Rambus has managed to win a ruling that effectively means that graphics chip designer Nvidia is banned from importing the chips it uses in just about every one of its products.
The ruling affects not only the Green Goblin but all of its manufacturing partners, the companies that actually manufacture the graphics cards based on its GPU chips. Nvidia took the lead in the legal defense for the other named parties, which include Asustek, HP and Microstar International (MSI) among others.

Yeah, I would say that is a very good source

Nvidia said it can continue sales by taking advantage of a licensing arrangement Rambus reached with European regulators as part of an unrelated antitrust case.

It's True: The ruling gives nVidia a 'Cease and Desist' order because they weren't paying Rambus royalties on what ended up being judged as Rambus' Intellectual Property. The end result will involve large sums of money moving from nVidia to Rambus, and the end consumer will be inconvenienced with slightly higher prices and possibly a short interruption of the flow of parts.

Business as Usual, tho: Just RAMBUS bending another corporation over in Patent court. They're not a technology company any more. Rather a bunch of professional patent trolls.

my comment was more tongue-in-cheek, but I agree with you Sygnus.

I just hear about these things in the news a lot and most are patent trolls. they buy a vague patent then sit on it for a long period of time and then sue anyone who is using it.

I don't think Rambus is doing that in this case.

To me the problem is RAMBUS has a few patents that others tried to step on because they felt RAMBUS was too small to fight. RAMBUS said not so fast, we have a right to our patents just like Intel, Nvidia or any other large corporation.

Unfortunately, some of these corporations are finding out the hard way that RAMBUS isn't rolling over

If RAMBUS has a patent then it should be honored and it looks like it's going to be. If patents aren't honored the companies will stop R and D because they will not receive the proper funds for there work and investment and we all as users will loose. If you build a better mouse trap then you should get the money. By the way most will want to buy the better mouse trap.
