Hi, I guess you just tried to install it by running the.exe file, have you tried it manually from 'Device Manager'.

As you have an OEM machine, installing drivers direct from Nvidia is NOT recommended. Often devices in OEM machines are configured to work a little differently.

In fact Nvidia's site should have told you that, but either you ignored/didn't read the warning, or more likely; as your machine shipped with Vista, I guess you have done a manual upgrade to 7, hence why the OEM wasnt detected.

The latest driver for your machine is a Vista driver, available from here: Software Upgrade

To ensure compatibility, use this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/98073-drivers-install-vista-drivers-windows-7-a.html

Roderunner, i tried it your way but it did not work. Thank for the idea though :)

severedsolo, yes, I have installed Windows 7 over the OEM Vista that shipped.

I want to make sure I understand you, severedsolo. I am using a machine with a manual instal of Windows 7, but I should only install new drivers using compatibility mode for Vista?

Or are you telling me to use those old drivers from 2008 meant for Vista, on a computer running windows 7?

If I were to take an intelligent guess, (and that's all it is) I would say the driver will not install, because Windows or the installer has detected OEM hardware, and knows that it can/probably will break something.

In fact, it's more likely to be the chipset that will cause issues, but as graphic drivers on integrated chips, (which you have) install with chipset drivers as well normally, then it is highly recommended that you use the OEM version, in case they have changed it to work with their hardware.

Generally speaking, it is always best to update from the OEM, so yes, I would give that Vista driver a bash.

Be sure to check dates first though, to make sure that it really is an upgrade.

You are using a notebook, right. 9600"M" means Mobile = Notebook.
You have to get Notebook graphic card drivers from the manufacturer. The stock drivers will not install on a notebook.

Oh wow, I didn't even think of that when I tried to install it. Yes, I have a notebook and those drivers aren't for a notebook :o

thank you :geek:

270.51 - Wont install

( I solved the issue with the installer )

My Specs on this system are
3.2 P4 800 512k
2gb "333" dual channle
7800GS AGP
1-SATA 160 ,1-IDE 160
WINDOWS 7 32-Bit

I had no issue installing the 266.58,

Nvidia probley wont look back there going forward.

1) The solution is to download and save both 270.51 and 266.58 Drivers -To DESKTOP

2) On desktop Make 2 new seperate folders named 270 & 266

4) Extract each Driver to the FOLDER . I used winrar.

5)I then swaped the "Display.driver" from the 270 copy and replaced into the 266

6) Run the installer from the uncompressed modifyed 266

7) Rivatuner does confirm that I have succeded. The 270 Driver is installed!!!

ENJOY

270.51 Nvidia driver wont install

Last night I was able to test the 270.51 on my system mentioned above USING THE ABOVE METHOD :p

My Hardware is fine / GPU

I tested Sniper Ghost warrior & BLACK OPS, The 270.51 = No crashing, No problems

I was able to chug from frame to frame but regaurdless a 7800gs wasnt designed for that generation of graphics similar to other GPUs that have experienced installation issues on the 270.51 driver.

Anyhow working flawless for me NOW waiting for the power of programing to make the next graphic leap not the GPU...

Thanks for this, I will give it a try as well. My son has an Alienware m15x laptop with the 9800mGT video card that we bought in June 2009, and Dell took over in September 2009.
I cant get any new drivers beyond 186.xx to work (even the ones meant for notebooks from Nvidia), and Dell wont help because it is "pre-Dell", and Alienware will only support up to their last driver release which was in late 2009. And I was told they will not be putting out any more software for pre-Dell hardware.
Great customer service, right?

Anyhow, again...thanks.
