I have an nvidia 6600 gt that i'm trying to install. When I put it in my computer windows recognized it and use the standard drivers it worked except I only got crappy resolution and such. I uninstalled (I think...best i could at least) my ati drivers and installed the nvidia driver and my computer boots to the welcome screen, you hear the startup noise and then the computer restarts.

Anything I'm missing?

First fill out your system spes in you user CP top of page. We need to know all your hardware. Second you have an Nvidia 6600gt and you mention removing all the ATI drivers What??? Which drivers did you install and I assume you did this before you restarted. First try and startup in safe mode. Then uninstall the display driver, Restart and let windows install the driver. You might be having resolution problems because you don't have your monitor driver installed , it would be listed under display in device mngr as PnP if this is correct. If so find and install the display driver if their is one. Can't help you with this, without knowing all your system specs.
Also the build # and 32 bit or 64 bit 7 version. Just need more information.

Installing ATI drivers on a Nvidia card is asking for troubles i think.

Once i tried to switch my Nvidia card for a ATI card and i kind of forgot to delete the Nvidia drivers and the system didn't even booted up for me.

Assuming you have a old ATI video card (if you don't i don't know why you have some ATI drivers instaled) try putting that ATI video card back in and uninstall all the ATI drivers and then put your Nvidia card back in (Just uninstaling the Catalyst Control Center should be enough)

Ok, Sorry guys. I was tired and frustrated last night so I wrote a crappy post. Anyways my specs: dual 242 opterons. Tyan 2875s mobo, 2 gigs ram, nvidia 6600 gt, I dont know the windows 7 build of hand and i'm not around my computer but i will post it asap.

I used to have an ati radeon 1350 (i think thats the right number) but that went bad on me so i swapped it for my older card. I uninstalled the ati drivers, which I really had issues with. It didn't want to uninstall, I did everything I could find. At first my computer booted and windows installed its own driver but i couldnt get the right resolution or figure out how to install a monitor driver (there is not one installed for my hans g. I just says generic driver). I then downloaded the nvidia drivers, installed it and reboot...now it just reboots right after the welcome screen, before you see the desktop. You see the welcome screen, then it goes away you hear the startup noise on a black screen then reboot. Then it says windows didnt shut down normally and wants me to try safemode.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully this post will give you more info.

Josh
