Hi RMZ06, Welcome to the forums, Have you installed the correct driver? ForceWare Release 95 ,Disable the onboard graphics in the bios , you may find you have to install the nvidia driver in compatibility mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html > The graphic card you have is old Windows 7 require DirectX 9 or above which unfortunately your card does not support, maybe its time for an upgrade ;)

I have pretty much tried those things and that is the same driver I tried to install. I wish I could upgrade my graphics card but its a PCI card so my options are limited. When I ran the Windows 7 requirements thing it said my graphics card was ok? :(

A computer that old is going to have little to no (more no than anything) Windows 7 support beyond what Windows installs natively. In the case of your 5500 the best you're going to get is that last (and only) Vista driver pebbly linked to. The only thing I can see for the driver for it not installing is due to no or only partially working/support for the chipset.

As far as the chipset goes (Brookdale AKA the old Intel i845) doesn't have any Windows 7 support as Intel dropped all support for it a while ago. One thing you can try if you haven't is to see if Windows Update offers anything related to the chipset and if so install it.

So my only options are to run it on the Brookdale video card cause right now it is working perfect on it? Or update my computer....

Not your only option if you can get the drivers for the 5500 to install. Then again the only thing at this point and time that the 5500 has over the integrated Intel video is that Aero will work on it. You could also try running this,

Intel® Driver Update Utility

for the chipset, but I doubt that it will do anything with one that old.

Or update my computer....

By that I would hope you mean a new computer, as there is nothing left in yours to update/upgrade. Short of adding a new or bigger hard drive, anything else for it would be a waste of money as nothing bought for it would be transferable to a new computer and would cost more than the computer is worth.

I am pretty sure the driver is installed cause I can see it in my hardware devices I am assuming Windows 7 just isnt recognizing it because the driver is not made for Windows 7 no???

I tried the Intel update utility and I am pretty sure it updated the card because thats how all those other reolution options appeared earlier. My only Option before was 800 by 600 which i couldnt see anything at that resolution, then higher reolutions appeared which was a life saver.

Ya I meant upgrade as in get a new computer this one is from 2003 it still works great but an updated one may be in my future.

Try this for the Nvidia driver, first open Programs and Features and uninstall the Nvidia driver if it is showing then run the installer again only this time run it in compatibility mode,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Also double check the bios settings and make sure that it is set to the PCI card as the primary display device and not the onboard.

Download, to desktop, the latest nvidia driver for your card, from the nvidia website. Get a copy of Driver Sweeper from 3D Guru, and install.
Go into msconfig, boot tab, and select safe boot, apply and reboot.
In safe mode, go into device manager and uninstall vid card drivers. Go into programs add/remove and remove all nvidia software. Run driver sweeper and remove all nvidia software.
You should drop the other cards software as well. Trying to get to windows stock drivers.
Reboot, defrag HD. Still in safe mode install downloaded nvidia driver from the desktop to C:\.
REboot, safe mode, go to msconfig, boot tab, uncheck safe mode.

It was mentioned above, go into bios and make sure you have selected for pci vid card??????

I have tried the compatibility mode and none of those work it says that the version of the software is not compatible with the operating system. The only way to run the driver software is to just click on it and run it normaly. I set the bios to use the pci as the primary none of this worked but thanks.

Spyknee: I will try your advice later on tonight, thanks I am crossing my fingers I will let you know.

I tried the steps you gave me and its still the same I can see NVidia Graphics Card in device manager but for some reason when I enable it nothing changes. The Standard VGA Compatible driver can be unistalled and the only one there is the NVidia and it still does nothing. Even if I try to install my monitor driver the only video card it recognizes is the standard vga it wont allow me to install it on the NVidia. :(

Update: Even in the add or remove programs list there is nothing there for NVidia.

Which output are you using. VGA or DVI?
There are DVI to VGA adapters.
What input type does monitor use?

You said you see nVidia software in device manager. That says the been recognized. Under drivers tab, whats listed? MS or nVidia.
But you cannot access the nVidia control panel from desktop? Is the cp listed under hardware? is there an nVidia folder listed in the start menu?

What you describe is like when your in safe mode. You cannot get to cp from desktop when in safe mode.
If the drivers are in, then its some simple issue, I feel.

I have a Geforce FX5500 AGP, I used the 96.85 GeForce Vista drivers in Windows 7 32 bit. I downloaded them from the Nvidia web site. Didn't have to use compatibility mode or do anything special to install them.

EDIT: oops just noticed the "Forcewar Release 95" at the top, should have clicked the link before I posted. 96.85 is forcewar release 95. :o Anyway they worked OK for me.

I believe I am using a VGA. And the monitor uses VGA.
Under the drivers tab is says NVidia when I look under the Nvidia Driver in device manager. No I cant access anything from my desktop. If I right click and look at the reolution it says sync master installed on Standard VGA Graphics card. If I click the drop down menu there is no option for my NVidia. There are no NVidia folders in the start menue and no NVidia stuff in the add/remove programs list. I am not in safe mode I wish it was that easy!!! :)

When I installed windows 7 I did the windows update before I installed my NVidia driver. Maybe I should try reinstalling and doing the NVidia driver install before doing any windows updates???
