Nvidia Drivers & TV-OUT

I've just installed latest Vista WHQL drivers in the attempt to make it work the TV-OUT mode as on XP.. but no way.

Anyone know how to activate fullscreen video on second monitor?
maybe a register entry?

As for the default W7 online-update drivers, no option.

Any help?

BTW as dual boot, Windows 7 really rocks! I can't believe my eyes...

I seem to have the same problem...

I've tried the latest Vista WHQL drivers today (181.20) and, prior to that, the NVIDIA drivers available from Windows Update automagically. However...although I can enable the VGA and DVI/HDMI outputs of my 8600GT to one of my TVs, I just can't get the component-out connection working to my second TV (usuallly detected fine and appears as "HDTV" on the NVIDIA control panel). Re-booted into Vista and all is well there, just won't work in Windows 7.

I've also noticed that the Windows 7 machine suffers from the washed-out blacks that I had on Vista with the newer drivers...

Well, I used Vista not so much... don't remember if there worked the fullscreen output on my TV

Surfing on nVidia forums,
seems like nVidia cut that feature from its drivers and Cards due to some kind of DRM added by Microsoft already in Vista.

Very bad, if there is no registry string to fix this..
I guess then, It doesn't work for you Fullscreen output on Vista.

What is ugly is that ATI cards have the same feature, called Theater Mode, and it works!

The thing is...it does work, always has (for me). I use it in Vista to clone my display between a plasma in my lounge (HDMI) and an LCD in my kitchen (Component).

I've done a bit more digging on this after your info above (very useful - thanks)... It turns out that on my Vista install, where cloned TV Out over component in full-screen works fine, I have quite an old version of the NVIDIA drivers for my 8600GT - 163.69, to be precise. Installing 163.75 (the nearest available Vista GeForce archived release to 163.69) on Windows 7 and TV Out in full-screen clone mode works there too. Obviously not ideal as these drivers are dated around 2007, but a workaround for me at the moment (note that there is a crash on install of these on Windows 7, but it actually works fine afterwards). I guess (slightly) later GeForce releases may also work, but I haven't tried them.

This whole debate about cloned mirroring between two displays with NVidia cards on Vista (and I presume Windows 7) is really worrying though, and I didn't know anything about that. Looks like I'm going to be looking at an ATI card in the longer term, which is something I'd been thinking about anyway...

if you can check in some ways the registry and find out which string/key is related to fullscreen... you might export it, and then import it using the latest drivers.

The Vista 32-bit version of 163.75 did install for me - I can't remember if there was a warning about OS version, and it certainly did crash with an error dialogue during the installation, but it did install and work in the end.

I'll have a look, but I suspect there's something more fundamental in the later drivers to mess with things... To clarify, when I use the latest drivers on Windows 7 the NVIDIA control panel won't even detect my display that's connected via component to TV Out - the "Rigorous Detection" thing does nothing either. However, with the Vista 163.75 drivers it all works on Windows 7 as it does for me with 163.69 on Vista.

Same for me, I think. I know that AMD/ATI have their problems too, but as a non-gamer just interested in a decent HTPC card with different connection options, I'm thinking I should have gone for an HD3450 (or similar). When I need to upgrade, it will now be an ATI.

I can get my lg flat monitor to work but when i use it on my flat tv via HDMI it is over sized screen and adjusting screen res does not help. You can barely click on some things that are out of the picture. My onboard ethernet adapter drivers will not work as well i think it says marvell the brand is marvell.

I had no problems whatsoever getting TV Out to work in Win7. I have 181.22 Win Vista WHQL drivers. Although I do have to force TV detection; but I have to do it for TV Out to work.

I have a pretty old 21" CRT TV {am lucky it has a Composite in jack! } and although I had to adjust the picture at the first try, the settings were saved and it looks spectacular now.

I would also like to say that I did not install the drivers by double clicking the setup.exe. Rather, I uninstalled my previous driver, rebooted, and used Device manager to look for the drivers after I extracted the drivers from the Setup.exe using WinRAR.

Windows 7 RC1 and HDTV

I am currently running XP Pro and Windows 7 in a Dual Boot. I have an Nvidia 8400GS connected to a Sony 50" HDTV, DVI to HDMI, and to a 20" analog monitor via VGA.

I am using the Nvidia 182.5 drivers with XP Pro and outputting to the HDTV at 1900x1080. I use the HDTV as a Single display because I never got Clone to work well with a monitor and an HDTV. I had to use Resize the Display to shrink the Desktop so it would fit on the HDTV.

I am using the Nvidia 185 drivers for Windows 7. When I try to use 1080p, I cannot shrink the Desktop to fit the HDTV. It seems to be maxed out. I had to switch to 720p. I was able to shrink the display but I would rather be at 1080p

I was having the same problems a lot of you were having getting TV out to work with Win 7 and an older back projection TV that only accepts component input that worked great with XP but Win 7 failed to recognize the TV was there. I tried everything. Spent the better part of a day doing it. In desperation I brought our 1 year old 37 inch LCD from the bedroom to the TV room and hooked it up. I did not even need to tell Win 7 or the NVIDIA panel it was there it just started working. Resolution was at 800 x 600 in the NVIDIA panel. Set it to 1080i and made sure it was set to TV out through component. Turned off the LCD and took off the 3 plugs and put them on the other TV and turned it on. Bam there it was. Rebooted several times to make sure it took and now am a happy camper. I don't know though. Pic looks "off a bit" but I am using older Vista drivers but I am going to try the latest here in a bit. If they don't work I will go back to 181.22 Win Vista WHQL drivers as was suggested here.
