Nvidia "forgot" what my monitor was?

I accidently uninstalled something called "Creative sound blaster properties x64" and suddenly at that instant my resolution was reset to 1024 x 768. So I was quite confused. I decided to uninstall the rest of the sound card drivers and reinstall them since I had accidentally uninstalled that one part to begin with. I investigated the resolution changing come to find out windows and my nvidia control panel both forgot what my monitor model was! In the nvidia control panel it used to tell me I had a Viewsonic A91f+ and would only show the refresh rates and resolutions that were supported. Now its just showing up as "Analog Display." What the heck is going on here?

Add: The event view has a whole bunch of "The NVIDIA Display Driver Service service has reported an invalid current state 32." Not sure if it's related.

Because of that error, you should run Memtest86 overnight to test system RAM. It's also possible the components on the video card are failing instead. That's a hardware error and something is definitely wrong. There's an app that tests video memory too. but I forget what it's called. You can Google it if you need.

If those GSkill modules you're using are performance RAM, find the exact VDimm and timings on their website for the specific model. Then adjust bios accordingly.

Installing the latest beta video card driver may help, instead.

Ok that brought a lot more worry than I thought I was going to hear I took your advice and did find that my RAM wasn't running at factory spec in the BIOS, and upped the voltage and set the timings to the factory specs. I ran memtest86+ for 21passes and it came up with 0 errors. Tonight I'll be running the video memory test to see if anything is going on there. To make things more fun, the nvidia control panel knows what my monitor is now... again.

I'll post again after the next test. Thanks for your suggestion.
