Hi,

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 32bit and am currently using a Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT. The version is 257.21. I keep getting a message saying my windows Nvidia kernel driver mode has stopped responding but has successfully recovered. I get this anytime I open multiple windows, play video games or even load youtube or facebook videos. On occasions, I am not even doing anything but moving my mouse and the screen blacks out before receiving that message 3-4 secs later.

I have tried almost 10 driver updates from the Nvidia website but to no avail, it still gives me the same graphic card crashing problem. Previously, I was on Windows XP Home and have totally no problems with my video card.

Hope to get some help from here soon! I've spent the last 3 days of my life trying to fix this! Apparently it's a very common problem but from all my googling I have not found a fix yet. Hopefully someone here can help me! *fingers crossed* =)

Hi,

As you expected, this is graphic card issue. Stop code 116. First thing to try is to re-install the graphic card drivers. When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Read this article for more things to try:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...op-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html

Do you have another graphic card to try on your system or perhaps borrow from friend?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried uninstalling, using the driver scanner and reinstalling the most updated version. Unfortunately, I still get the same thing. Unstable video card and I cannot even watch youtube videos.

I really hope Nvidia or Windows does something about this soon. So many people has had same problems and are helpless.

Have you tried the video card on another machine? That should tell us whether the card itself is bad.

...including me. Exact same problem, but with an 8500GT on W7 Ultimate. i've done everything possible outside of buying a new card and reinstalling the OS. I guess i'll have to buy a card...

Does anyone have any ideas? has anyone bought a new card an confirmed that it did/didn't solve the issue? The problem is presents an ungodly level of frustration.

Well, perhaps you can borrow a new card on your system or try the current one on other machine to see if it fix yours bro. Because it's possible that other thing can cumulative and cause this BSODs including heat and overclocking as well.

Just picked up a new GTX 460 and threw it in. All the problems have gone away. Looks like the old card was going bad...
