NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GT problems (screen flashing, pixels, etc)

Hi, I recently got a new power supply and a graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 9800 512 mb GT) installed into my computer. Previously all I had was a ATI radeon 3200 onboard chipset for graphics.

Upon turning it on for the first time, things seemed okay, but graphicsl glitches and errors have happened nearly everywhere. Here is a list of some of them-

-If I drag my mouse over desktop icons or any buttons, sometimes a larger image of that area will appear next to it.

-If I click and drag a desktop icon, sometimes a rectangular area will glitch out, such as a portion of my desktop picture growing larger as it passes over it.

-When I scroll through an internet page, at random frequent intervals the area it is scrolling through will grow huge, though it isn't reall there as I can't interact with any of the larger buttons. When this happens the scroll bar disappears. This happens alot and is even happening as I type this post. Portions of this text are randomly popping up in random spots on my screen, at a large size, as if I was on a small screen resolution.

-When trying to play World of Warcraft, my fps is higher but it just is not rendering 3D anything well. Shapes will flash with color, sometimes the screen will just go black and random glitchy graphical shapes of different colors will appear and flash, making the game unplayable. The enlarging problem happens in game too. If i have the options menu open in World of Warcraft, there will be a huge options menu just above it, large in size but unclickable.

And ohers...

My info-

OS- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Processor- AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2.3 GHz
Installed Memory- 8.00 GB
Graphic Card- NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GT (512 MB, one DVI and one VGA port)
Graphic Card Driver Version- 8.17.12.6099
Monitor- HP w2338h wide LCD monitor, VGA port
750 watt power supply
Directx 11 (Which is a bit of a problem since this card apparently doesn't work well with it, and World of Warcraft usually only needs Directx 9 and/or 10.)

I'll try to print-screen some pictures of what exactly the graphicsl glitches are looking like, though half the time they simply don't appear in the picture at all. A lot of times dead or flashing pixels will appear all over the screen, whether its on the desktop, in an internet window or in world of warcraft, and they get worse if I scroll up or down, but they never seem to appear in a screenshot via print-screen.

Main graphic problems-

-Lots of pixels flashing all over, sometimes around the edges of windows as well.
- Random portions of the screen grow huge or a second larger version of the area flashes over near the original real area, whether it be in WoW, an internet window or the desktop, usually after scrolling, clicking or mousing over something though sometimes by doing nothing.
-Youtube videos randomly growing larger and larger versions of them flashing over the youtube box.
-World of Warcraft 3D rendering problems, making it unplayable.

The only screenshots that actually work are the in-game World of Warcraft ones. Here are some that show some of the graphical glitches.

Looks like a dying graphic card... Do you have a spare? If you do, test the spare, see if the problem persists...

I do not have a spare, its my first graphics card, and its pretty new. First time in the machine. Someone said it could be an overheating problem though, again, its new, and the card itself has a fan, along with two other fans in the computer. When I only had the ati radeon 3200 onboard card, everything worked fine, but i had very low fps in games.

Hi,
Usually these are the results of the conflict between the ati and nvidia drivers. You had built on ati and now have Nvidia. You have to completely remove the old ATi drivers and then reinstall the Nvidia drivers. Other then that you shoulkd be golden.
Luck

Not a bad machine.

also have a Zoostorm Desktop pc, jsut a machine for testing stuff on before i throw it on to this one.
Hi.

I have that same card, it's an EVGA one. You can also download Rivatuner, so that you can make sure that your card is being cooled properly and you can set a manual speed for your card to be cooled. Also get Speedfan, too. That way you can monitor your temperatures. PC Wizard works too.

Could it be because I have directx 11 that its bugging like this? I know its a bit infamous for not being too compatible with it. I wish I didn't get windows 7...I'd still have dx10

DirectX have nothing to do with artifacting... Why not borrow your friend's card, see if it behaves like yours...? Higher framerate but smearing graphic showing all over, duplication of textures, shapes flashes with random color, all of those are symptoms of broken graphic card.

And no, ATi and Nvidia driver conflicting will not show symptoms like that...

Thanks for all of the input, I'm going to hope to try two things, putting the graphics card into another computer to see if it is defective and using a different monitor to see if thats the case (since the whole 'things getting huge' sorta seems like a screen resolution thing)
