I just upgraded a dell laptop inspiron 8200 from xp to win7, dual boot. The only problem was my NVidia ge force xp video driver in xp was replaced in win 7 by a generic vga driver. I downloaded the closest NVidia driver for vista/win7.It works with greater than 1200 res and my screen savers now work(didn't with generic vga). I thought all was well but now I see that every time I reboot, I have ~1200 res on welcome screen and for 2 seconds on the desktop, but then the desk top goes black and restarts at ~1000 res, which is available in the NVidia settings. I am careful when I select the 1200 to accept the new res setting before it reverts, so that all should be saved properly and remembered. I can't figure out why the settings are not remembered, but I would like to fix this annoyance.

You could try doing a Windows Update. Scan for updates, and see if a video driver is included in what it finds. If it is, then install only that one update.

Thanks for the reply. Before I found the NVidia driver I used, I did the updates. None available. Again, the driver functions fine, just won't remember the save. That should not be because of windows update vs my own update.
