Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. After installation Nvidia nforce Networking Controller stopped working. It is recognized under Device Manager but gives ' device cannot start. (Code 10)'

It's a Compaq Presario f755us with Nvidia chipset Nforce 560 and Southbridge Nforce 560. I've tried several different drivers as well as the drivers for Nforce 560 on Nvidia's website(NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.23 WHQL) however all have been ineffective. Installed the windows vista 32 bit versions of all drivers (also tried two xp drivers).

I searched for other threads on the topic but I couldn't find a solution within them. I'd appreciate your assistance. Thank You

There isn't an update in Windows Update. I'll restart and run it again.

Is there another way of finding out what I need?

There isn't any update in Windows Update pertaining to it (or anything remotely related). Thanks though.

However I went through Device Manger and right-click the device to update it via searching online.

It said "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

Nvidia nforce networking controller

This device cannot start. (Code 10) "

Any ideas? (Went into BIOS but the available options are limited.)

Hi Makaveliix;

In your specs you say your computer supports 64 bit but you don't say if you are using 7 x32 or x64?

Does the Compaq web site say your computer supports Vista or 7?

Cheers!
Robert

I had vista installed on it before I upgraded to 7. The adapter worked perfectly fine in vista however since the upgrade it hasn't worked.

It sounds like you have tried several drivers? I would suggest trying the lasted Vista or 7 driver x32 bit from the Compaq web site. You can try using compatibility mode, or a manual install that involves browsing to the inf file via Device Manager. Please let us know if you need help with either of these.

Last I would suggest using drivers from the Nvidia site.

I found the solution.

Used Everest to identify the Lan Controller under PCI devices. Then used the name of the Lan controller and found a driver for win vista x32. Installed it and it seems to be working.

Thank you very much for the assistance. :D
