I have been thinking its about time for a upgrade, but I cant choose between the 2 cards, they costs the same but the 760 is better than the 7950, many people recommend me getting a AMD.

Personally I'd go for the 760 over the 7950.

AMD Radeon HD 7950 w/ Boost Versus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 - Page 13 of 13 - Legit Reviews Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Better idea of what to choose they are about the same but 3gb will be more effective

That in the end makes a big difference you won't be limited by resolution with 3gb as opposed to 2 gb Vram

You can also flash a 7950 to a 7970

Can you tell me more about this flashing?

it basically allows you to run the card at a higher clock speeds without the use of a overclock program that has to startup with windows. the risk there is you could break the card perminitly. usually the warranty dosent cover that either.

if you are not bias with the manufacturer, i would just get the cheapest one. either way, with the CPU you have and the resolution you are running at, both cards will be bottlenecked. however if you upgrade your CPU, you will be able to play EVERY game on the market at max settings in the next 5 years at that resolution.

I am using a AMD FX 8350, srry for the old specs. But would it bottleneck? I also looked around on Newegg and found a list of cards:

The 7900's have dual bios one is write protected that would be #2 the #1 is the only flash-able one if you botch the #1 you can always switch to #2 and there is a way to fix the bad Bios with ATIWINFLASH

Also it doesn't void warranty I sent in a flashed 7970 just a month ago and got a new one back

I have original 7970's mine were flashed for higher clocks and less voltage

7950's on the other hand are 7970's that didn't make the 7970 cut

Most of the time for AMD anyway 6900 series 6950 can be turned into a 6970 same with the later it's because they disable some of the stream processors or something to that effect once you flash it you have everything there

It boils down to brand and if you like overclocking it if not go 760 if you wan to overclock it and rev it up then 7950

Or you could wait a couple of weeks and have a look at the new AMD R9 series, the R9 270 is $200, the R9 280 is $300 , No price for the top R9 290X yet though but I think they will all perform very well.

Paul.

no, there will be NO bottleneck with an 8350 and 7970 or 7950. Are you still playing at 1280x720?

break down:

GTX 760 and 7950= SAME PERFORMANCE
7970= best performance

7950=$220
gtx 760=$260
7970=$310

IMO if playing on 1080p with one monitor, the 7950 is your best bang for the buck. tagged with the 8350, its a great rig. it will play almost all current games maxed out, and will do so in the next few months to 1 year of games.

if you want to get into overclocking and such, then you can flash a bios and overclock, and make the world go round faster.

if you can spend more, go with the 7970, if you can spend more then 7970, go with a gtx 770.

My friend has a Nvidia 700 series and it works pretty well without a overclock. But if I were you, I would wait for the new AMDs.
