Nvidia or ATI and why

i dunno if someone already started a thread like this or not ...
well i wanna ask what is the difference between the two of them , i do like nvidia but ATI prices are much lower than nvidia , so i'm looking to buy a new Video card and if i did choose nvidia which one is the best for me my money range 100$ ~ 170$

I like NVidia. Use to use ATI but had a bad experience with them on the PC I built 4 years ago. Switched to NVidia and have never looked back.

Nvidia. I've had problems with both, Nvidia problems being far less frequent.

Like many others, I've had early issues with ATI.
Made the permanent move to to nVidia.

But apparently, ATI have really cleaned up lately, and are looking good. I've got on in my macpro at work, and its performing well. Sadly, I cant game with it.

But still I'd never buy one. Personal preference is to stick with nVidia.

i recently chose ati, as my card (6950) runs cooler and uses less power, for the same sort of performance as the similarly priced competition - so i didn't need to upgrade my psu/cooling as well.

and it looks pretty cool too (if you're into that sort of thing )

I have had less problems with Nvidia drivers and the 3D graphics is better IMO.

If you want an answer, figure out your budget for a card. Once you have this, buy the best card you can for the budget.

If you don't want to go with that amount, research what the best current "bang for your buck" card is, and get that one. There's no way of saying one brand is better than the other in a factual sense. Prices change all the time, so there's no good or bad time. That's why I usually go with the budget. Choose an amount you are comfortable with spending, and then pick the card that gives you the most performance within that amount.

MSI use that same cooler on Nvidia cards too, so for the style of coolers MSI have, can have best of both worlds

Both have their own pros and cons - determine your own requirements, (games/htpc/number of monitors etc) create a shortlist, google that shortlist and then decide.

There are decent cards from both camps in your price range.

LOL I was just about to post something similiar till I saw your post.

Anyway this is like asking which tastes better chocolate or vanilla..... you're going to get tons of opinions.

Bottom line do a little reading, choose a card, ask a few questions, and make the decision.

And no matter which card you choose, someone is going to disagree as we all have opinions.

I don't think it makes any difference. I know a few people who say that Nvidia is better, but they can rarely give any concrete reasons when pushed. Many of these things are more or less entirely subjective.

I use both, in various machines, and have installed many more in other machines, as well as a lot of other stuff.

As long as whatever it is does the job you want it for, then it basically comes down to a price issue. If you want to stay on the "bleeding edge" of technology and always play the newest most advanced games and stuff like that, then you are going to be changing cards a lot and spending a lot of money!

Well after reading all the comment & opinions i have to thank everyone , i think i'll go with Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 this card sounds like fine to me ... Now i wanna hear some opinions about how good is performance of this card .... it sounds like my finial decision

I have an EVGA GTX460 SC, but I can't say that I have seen any difference in performance than when I used the GTS 8800. However, I'm not much of a gamer, and I suspect that is where it might shine over it's predecessor.

One person mentioned that Physx was his deciding factor, but I can't comment much on this for two reasons...one is that this is something that is primarily for gaming, and the second is that for some reason, the last several drivers that I have installed failed on installing Physx. I'm not certain is this is a hardware or driver issue though.

never had issue with physx here. You will be pleased with your 460 gtx. Good card, currently best bang for the buck.

Looks like the 460 gtx is a great card- also overclocks well so you can save some bucks by doing this yourself.

Until you actually try to file a claim with them. Lifetime only means lifetime of the card...and they decide when that lifetime is up.
