Nvidia or ATI i cant decide

Evening all i currently have a 260GTX and i am looking to upgrade, i have been looking at ati's 5850 but cant decide wheather to go for an ati card or stick with the nvidia and maybe get a 295 any ideas?

If you're looking to upgrade soon, then go with an ATI card as there's no point going for current Nvidia cards, but if you are wanting to maybe get an Nvidia card too, then wait until the end of March when the next Nvidia cards are released, because ATI cards will most likely go down in price too.

I've had my share of problems with NVidia drivers and cards. I am running an NVIdia currently.

they messed up one driver wow. ati has a very looooooooooooooong history of messing up drivers. i would go with nvidia but get something in the 300 series.

Unless the OP is getting a laptop, it's actually the 400 series he'd be waiting for.

nVIDIA just release the specs on the 480 today or yesterday. Claiming that the new card matches up nicely with the current ATI 5870. LOL

That tells me the missed their target since the latest ATI is the 5970.

No, flaming, I am running nVIDIA 285 now myself and was looking forward to SLI a couple of the 480s.

Although in regards to the OP's question, a GT 300 series is not a worthy upgrade to a GTX 260.

It's still either a 58xx, 59xx or 400 series card if they want to see an improvement.

GT300 is OEM only though as far as I know.

So like what I said before as well, if you can wait, then wait until the end of the month for the GTX400s to come out and see where everything stands there.

I've got a GTX260 and a Radeon 5770.... The 260 performs better and is faster, while the 5770 has DX11.... But then again, I can't get either to work properly as you can see here

For now, it's much better to go with ATi, the driver is MUCH better than the old days, and ATi has the Eyefinity, the long forgotten span mode for us Vista/7 users...

5870 for performance, 4890 to save cash, onboard I would only use HD 4200.

thanks for the replies guys i have been a nvidia person for a long while hence games always seem to advertise with nvidia graphics, i have seen the 5850 spec and compared to my 260gtx it seems to be miles ahead it run with ddr5 ram which is gonna be very quick and nvidia even with the latest 295 models still only run with ddr3 ram seems like ati are ahead in the market these days

Silly question really because you will get those with nvidia cards saying nvidia and those with ati saying......

What ever brand they have they are going to stick up for, it's called fanboism.

Also if you look around you will see different sites have differing bench results for the same cards which suggests it's not only the card but also the rest of the configuration, so take benches with a pinch of salt.

All the ati heads are buzzing right now because nvidia ballsed up on one of their drivers for once, something Ati are consistently good at.

Answer to your question is wait till the prices drop on the newer cards because non of them are worth 4/5 hundred pound.

Only you can decide by reading reviews etc because like I said it will all be biased on here.
