I have a windows 7 64bit desktop with a nvidia geforce 9600 gso graphics card with the latest drivers, but for some reason when i look at the device manager it shows i have an older driver but in the add/remove programs it shows the latest drivers there, but the main problem is that i keep getting this annoying pop program running in the background called nvidia update com object, and it uses alot of resources and slow down my computer, i end the process but it just comes back up in a few minutes.

I was wondering what i can do and if anyone knows what exactly the problem is.

This is being started as a "service", you have several options;

  • In the NVidia control panel you should disable the "look for updates" option.

  • Run "MSConfig" and go to the service tab then uncheck "Nvidia Update Service Daemon"

  • In add remove programs uninstall the Nvidia Updater entry (should be listed separate from the driver)
Any one of these should solve your issue but if not there is no harm in trying them all in order.
