helo everyone!
i hope i did everything right.if not im really sorry

im runing a windows 7 profesional 32bit service pack 1 on a motherboard ASUS Intel Socket 775 p5vd2-vm/s and i have a nvidia geforce 8 series 8400 gs.
i only have windows 7 for a year and nvidia running with driver 275.33 (the windows xp version)
that was not a problem it worked very good for a year with windows 7
2 weeks ago my computer will start to freez and my monitor went black..a pop message teling me that nvidia displey driver stoped working then recovered.
after a week with this problem i downloaded the driver that nvidia updates recommended 296.10 for windows 7..
when i tried to install it .
my old driver was deleted and everyting was in BSOD but when it got to the part to install the new graphics driver it stoped saing that instalation failed. on my device manager nvidia disappeared and appeared the video controler (vga compatible) under the other devices but it says that is not instaled properly.
i have 4 days trieng to install nvidia drivers. nothing works.
i deleted everyting releated to nvidia in safe mode (with Sweeper too) and i tried to install random driver versions.older, more recent, and newer.i did these steps like 100 times with no luck.tried instaling in safe mode and normal too.
on nvidia site when i scan it says that i dont have a nvidia product on my computer but even tho i have vga , in my windows updates i have the driver for nvidia but is not istalling either..so my computer can see my nvidia but it cant install it.
i tried many tutorials from nvidia forums and other sites.
if anyone has any solution that will be great.
thank you very much

Tsuki.

"im sorry for my bad english"

Welcome aboard, Tsuki :)

" nvidia displey driver stoped working then recovered" is a problem that is inherent in some of the builds, 8400gs is one of those.

You better try to install the driver provided with the device, and then upgrade driver via device manager .

I also have 8400GS, and I also faced the same problem as you. Almost all the users of that one and the concurrent builds face that problem.

Do you have a restore point that you could restore to from before the errors started? What have you downloaded/installed around that time?

=James..i looked but dont have one..T.T i can ony restore back to 2 days ago

=Britton..i did that like 100times now

i checked again on my second hard drive and nvidia works fine so i think it windows 7 not very compatiblle with drivers or the card itself..

to explain:i have 2 hard drives on my computer and each has his windows.my main is win 7 and second(not used duo to low seed performance) is xp profesional..
xp runs with the same driver as win 7 was runing on nvidia 275.33 xp version so both of my OS's had te same driver..
if anyone asks if i tried to install nvidia without my second hard drive,my answer is yes..i unpluged the second and did all the steps i did when i had it..

so it works in xp why i cant install it on win 7?..i cant use xp cuz it eampty and runs slow beacuse the hard drive has problems..and i dont want to reinstall windows to lose all my work till now..repaire will do no good so..

in device manager if i hit the disable on the vga controler..what will happen? is there a way to disable nvidia the enable it again?

If the XP drive is bad, take it out and leave it out. No need to keep a bad part in there. Each OS needs its own drivers for everything so there is no relationship between them.
If you disable your VGA driver Windows will load a generic one, probably at 600x800 resolution.
I think you should back all of your personal data and do a fresh install of W7.

I've abandonned NVIDIA because theirs drivers burnt 2 of my card and the one of my brother. At least XFX warranty allowed us to get good replacement and they shipped us some AMD card.

I did like them and switched to amd card, for now at least.

For your problem :

Did your card used to glitch before that bug happenned ?

Did you ever noticed your cards temps ?

I suggest you try another video card and see the result. It is possible your windows registry has been messed up. Trying another card will confirm this on my opinion.

Hope this can help...

another thing to try, open the downloaded driver file from nvidia in 7zip or winrar, it will have a display.driver folder inside. extract that to your hard disk. use win7's device manager to update the ms vga display driver and use the 'browse my computer' option and point it to that extracted folder. has worked for me in the past when the setup.exe fails like it did to you. also make sure any 3rd party firewall/anti-malware program is turned off prior to installing. phyxion.net's 'driver sweeper' can also be used prior to the try to remove all traces of the old drivers that might be interfering.

Hi Zalsiros Welcome to Seven Forums.
To help all of us would you please add your systems specs? Here's how: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html#post1530002
Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add desktop or laptop and whether self built.

You can easily copy/paste from within the app, no install required.

You should start a new thread since this one is solved and describe your exact issue.:)
