Lets hope these cards will be worth upgrading too, if they are just a couple of GTX285's stuck together....no sale! My GTX280 holds it's own so unless this new card is balls to the wall I ain't about to purchase it.

This is the first time ever that both the new CPU platform > i7, and the newest latest greatest GPU's, aren't showing much of a difference in actual gaming performance comparied to the old tech which is still very good for gaming. Unless people think that DX11 is actually worth upgrading too, which so far it's not.

I'll be holding onto my money until Nvidia can show a substantial increase in performance from a single GPU card which so far it hasn't happend.

Well I'm still using my 8800s, so I'm looking for something to upgrade to, so I'm mainly waiting for prices to be revealed.

And pizzaman, can you try and not turn every Nvidia discussion in to an Nvidia vs ATI thread please.

I for one think the new GTX 400 series cards will have no trouble outperforming the high end ATI HD 5000 series cards.

Like I've said before: If they don't, then nVidia has done something terribly wrong.

Well that's the date of their next LAN event, and they've said they'll be selling some there.

the thing that gets me and what seems to be overlooked is that these cards--whenever they will be released--are NOT primarily graphics cards, but GPGPU cards. nVidia has acknowledged this from day one. i've read a story on that stated that the 480 is only about 5 percent faster than an 5870. is this in stone? no. nVidia has been very selective in the benches they let get released to definitely show areas where their new architecture surpasses that of ati. also read that the first round of cards are seriously down clocked from what nVidia first said these cards would be running at. why? heat. way too hot.

whenever they do launch in real life, it will be interesting. however, it's not all that important... next year will be another round of "GRAPHICS CARDS PERFORMANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS"

me... i'm still with my 4870s. i have two 19" monitors that my two crossfired cards have absolutely no problem running every single game i own on max settings--except for crysis of course, but i still can get the settings very high. i'm not looking to get rid of these babies until they break!

Yep, let the merry dance continue.

It's just like when the 4870 was released, it held the top spot as the fastest single GPU until the GTX 285 was released. Whilst the 285 was faster, comparative to expectations, it wasn't significantly faster.

Then came the 4870x2 which regained the the fastest 'single card' until nvidia released the GTX 295. And so on, and so forth.

Since we can only currently speculate on the 480's performance, it appears as the same thing is happening again.

ATI regains the top spot. Nvidia comes later (much later ) with something that is faster, but is still far below expectations in regards to the expected performance difference.

I'm in a similar situation. My Crossfired 4890's can still trade blows with the 5850/5870 (sans DX11 obviously) but so far, there aren't any real 'must have' DX11 games.

The real issue is that driver support/optimization for the 48xx series may become an issue. Particularly Crossfire 'profiles' for newer titles. They are struggling with the 57xx/58xx/59xx as it is. The 48xx is no longer a proirity for them.

right on with that. in my case though, i've been noticing that i've been less and less interested in the games coming out for pc. hell, i'm still playing crysis! got it on steam's holiday sale. so i'm always a few years behind the curve as far as games are concerned.

Unfortunately I'm still a 'new release' player and get to experience all the joys of 'bugs' that go along with it



Sometimes it's much better being behind the curve - usually most of the 'bugs' are ironed out by then.

My interest in games is waning though.

Partly due to age, but mostly due to spending so much damn time getting certain titles to actually work properly - by the time I do, I've usually played through with all the bugs and have zero interest in starting again
